Princess Yacht Charter
An ex-Navy officer called David King and two friends started Marine Projects on Newport Street in Plymouth in 1965, fitting out a bought-in hull moulding in a rented shed. The first boat, Project 31, sold for £3,400. The first GRP motor yacht with a flybridge followed in 1974.

About the shipyard
The decision that shaped everything after was hiring a young naval architect named Bernard Olesinski, whose name has since become shorthand for the deep-vee hull. Princess has used the same design office for most of five decades, and the continuity shows: the boats are consistent generation to generation in a way that makes a ten-year-old Princess feel far less dated than it ought to.
The X Class is the real recent innovation — a superflybridge running almost the full length of the yacht, adding close to a third more interior volume without adding a foot of length. It is the kind of idea that only looks obvious afterwards.
