Yacht charter Eleuthera traces the slender, 110-mile spine of one of the Bahamas’ most dramatically shaped islands, so narrow at the Glass Window Bridge that you can see the deep-blue Atlantic on one side and the calm, aquamarine Bight of Eleuthera on the other, separated by barely 30 feet of limestone. Local knowledgeWinter is prime time: the Exumas' sandbars and swimming pigs in settled trade-wind weather. Hurricane season (June to November) sits outside the charter calendar.
Holidays and school breaks that suit these waters
For December to April charters, booking 6 to 12 months ahead ensures the widest selection of vessels and crew. Eleuthera sees less competition for moorings than the Exumas, so shoulder-season trips in November or May can often be arranged with 6 to 8 weeks’ notice, especially on catamarans repositioning between seasons.
Your charter fee covers the yacht, professional crew, and onboard equipment including water toys, snorkelling gear, tenders, and all linens and towels. Food, beverages, fuel, and dockage fees are paid from the APA (typically 25 to 35% of the charter fee). Bahamian VAT of 10% is added to the base rate, and crew gratuity of 10 to 20% is customary and settled separately at the end of the charter.
Harbour Island sits just a mile off Eleuthera’s northern tip, most itineraries pair the two naturally, with barely ten minutes by tender between anchorages. A longer 10 to 14-day charter can run south from Harbour Island along Eleuthera’s coast and then cross into the northern Exuma cays, covering three of the Bahamas’ most scenic cruising regions in one voyage.
Eleuthera’s leeward coast provides well-protected anchorages with calm, shallow water ideal for young swimmers and first-time snorkellers. Catamarans are a popular family choice here, the wide beam and stable platform make life onboard with small children considerably easier, and the crew can tailor meals, activity schedules, and water-sport sessions to suit younger guests. The short tender ride to Harbour Island also opens up the gentle slopes of Pink Sands Beach for a memorable family day out.
Eleuthera’s charm lies in its unhurried rhythm: plantation-era pineapple fields give way to surf breaks rolling onto Surfer’s Beach, while the empty expanse of Lighthouse Beach stretches untouched at the island’s southern tip. The fleet includes motor yachts of 68′-98′, superyachts above 100′, and luxury catamarans from 55′, with sheltered anchorages dotted along the leeward western shore. High season runs December through April, when easterly winds average 12 to 16 knots and daytime temperatures hover around 26 °C; November and May bring softer rates and quieter bays.
Daily rates start from $5,700 on a catamaran or mid-size motor yacht and from $10,500 on latest-model vessels above 78′, plus 10% Bahamian VAT and APA. Eleuthera’s edge is contrast, within a single day’s cruising, you can bodysurf Atlantic swells, free-dive a blue hole, and dine on cracked conch at a clapboard shack overlooking glass-calm shallows on the Bight side.
