Local knowledgeTwin volcanic peaks, plantation-house elegance and quiet leeward anchorages: the Leewards at their most unhurried.
The latest additions to the fleet
St Kitts and Nevis sit at the northern end of the Leeward Islands chain. Antigua lies roughly 50 nautical miles to the south-east, and St Martin approximately 55 nautical miles to the north-west. A 10 to 14-day charter can comfortably link all three destinations, blending volcanic drama, colonial history, and the glamour of the St Martin yachting scene.
The advance provisioning allowance typically runs 25 to 35% of the base charter fee and covers fuel, food, beverages, port fees at Basseterre or Charlestown, and any arranged excursions such as Brimstone Hill tours or rainforest hikes. Your captain tracks all spending transparently, and unspent funds are refunded in full at the end of the charter.
For December to April charters, booking 6 to 12 months ahead ensures the widest selection of vessels. St Kitts and Nevis see fewer charter yachts than St Martin or Antigua, so specific vessel requests should be confirmed early. Shoulder-season trips in November or May can often be arranged with 6 to 8 weeks’ notice, and bring the bonus of quieter anchorages and warmer water.
Most charter yachts carry paddleboards, kayaks, snorkelling sets, and a tender as standard. Larger motor yachts and superyachts often add jet skis, SeaBobs, fishing tackle, and diving compressors. The waters around St Kitts offer excellent reef snorkelling and wreck diving, and your charter specialist can arrange guided excursions to the island’s top dive sites on request.
Yacht charter St Kitts and Nevis takes you to a twin-island federation where the volcanic drama of the Caribbean meets colonial history preserved in stone. St Kitts is dominated by the cloud-capped peak of Mount Liamuiga at 3,792 feet, its flanks tumbling through rainforest to the sea, while the UNESCO-listed Brimstone Hill Fortress crowns a 700-foot bluff above a coastline of black-sand beaches and sheltered bays. Nevis, just 2 nautical miles across The Narrows, is smaller and softer, a single green cone fringed by palm-lined beaches and plantation inns where afternoon tea is still served on a veranda overlooking the Caribbean. The charter fleet here numbers over 50 vessels, including motor yachts of 68′-98′, superyachts above 100′, and luxury catamarans from 55′. Peak season runs December through April, when trades of 15 to 18 knots keep temperatures around 28 °C; November and May bring shoulder-season value with warmer water and fewer visiting yachts.
Daily rates start from $8,000 on a mid-size motor yacht and from $10,200 on latest-model vessels above 89′, plus APA of typically 25 to 35%. The federation’s allure is its sense of discovery, two islands rich in volcanic landscapes and Georgian-era heritage that remain refreshingly off the mainstream charter circuit.
