Shipyard Italy est. 1842
A storm wrecked the fishing fleet at Sarnico on Lake Iseo in 1842. A newcomer named Pietro Riva repaired the boats, and stayed. His son Ernesto brought in the internal combustion engine; Ernesto's son Serafino took the yard racing and won; and Serafino's nephew Carlo turned it into a legend.
Carlo Riva ran the yard through the 1950s and 60s and, working with the architect Giorgio Barilani from 1956, produced the Ariston, the Florida and the Tritone — the first Riva with two engines. Then in 1962 the Aquarama, which stopped being a boat and became shorthand for the Mediterranean itself. Carlo sold out in 1969; the brand has been part of Ferretti Group since 2000, building at Sarnico, La Spezia and Ancona.
The modern yard has resisted the obvious temptation to trade on nostalgia alone. Contemporary Rivas are fast, technically current boats that quote the old vocabulary — the sweeping sheer, the chrome, the varnished detailing — without pretending it is still 1962. The larger Corsaro and Argo hulls prove the language scales past 30m.
