The latest additions to the fleet
For the peak December to February summer season, booking six to nine months ahead is strongly recommended, particularly over the Christmas-New Year window and during the Auckland Anniversary Day regatta (January). The shoulder months of November and March offer superb conditions with broader vessel availability and can often be arranged four to five months in advance.
The base rate covers the yacht, professional crew, insurance, and standard on-board equipment including the tender and snorkelling gear. Fuel, provisions, beverages, marina fees, and any excursions are funded through the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), set at 30 to 35% of the charter fee. New Zealand GST at 15% applies to the base rate, and any unspent APA is refunded at the end of the voyage.
Yes, and it’s one of the most rewarding itineraries in the Southern Hemisphere. The crossing through Cook Strait from Wellington to the Marlborough Sounds takes three to four hours on a motor yacht and opens up an entirely different landscape of drowned valleys and sauvignon-blanc vineyards. Your Boatcrowd broker designs a seamless inter-island routing with provisioning stops and sheltered overnight anchorages.
New Zealand is an outstanding family charter destination. The calm, sheltered waters of the Bay of Islands and Marlborough Sounds are ideal for young swimmers and paddleboarders, dolphin encounters are almost guaranteed in Northland, and bush walks, waterfall swims, and Maori cultural experiences captivate children of every age. Crews are experienced at tailoring menus, pace, and activities for younger guests.
Yacht charter New Zealand unveils a cruising ground of almost mythical beauty, twin islands where snow-capped Southern Alps plunge into jade-green fjords carved by ancient glaciers, the Bay of Islands’ 144 subtropical islets shelter dolphins and breaching orcas, and the Marlborough Sounds’ labyrinth of drowned river valleys offers anchorages so still the bush-clad hillsides mirror perfectly on the water. Over 20 charter yachts operate across New Zealand’s waters, including 68′-98′ motor yachts nimble enough to thread the narrow passages of Queen Charlotte Sound, 100′+ superyachts with stabilisers for the open waters of Cook Strait, and 55′+ luxury catamarans whose shallow drafts open up the tidal estuaries and mangrove creeks of Northland.
December to March is prime season, long southern-summer days of 22 to 28°C, calm seas, and the Hauraki Gulf alive with racing yachts and migrating Bryde’s whales. The shoulder months of November and April bring cooler mornings, stunning autumn colour in the Sounds, and softer pricing. Daily rates start from approximately $4,500/day, climbing to $9,000+/day on larger superyachts, plus 15% New Zealand GST and 30 to 35% APA for fuel, provisions, and marina fees. New Zealand’s unmatched allure is the compression of landscapes, subtropical bays, temperate rainforest, volcanic geothermal fields, and glacial fiords all within a single coastline, connected by some of the cleanest ocean water on earth.
