Local knowledgeCool-season cruising off the northern Gulf: Failaka Island's history, city-front marinas and glassy winter mornings.
Holidays and school breaks that suit these waters
With a compact fleet of around 10 vessels, early booking is key. Aim for five to seven months ahead for the November to March high season to secure the widest choice of yachts. Last-minute openings occasionally appear in the quieter shoulder months of October and April, though vessel choice will be more limited.
The Advance Provisioning Allowance is typically 30 to 35% of the base charter fee, covering fuel, food, beverages, and port charges throughout the voyage. Because Kuwait levies no VAT on charter services, overall costs can be notably more competitive than neighbouring Gulf states that apply 5 to 10% tax. Any unspent APA is refunded in full after the charter.
A motor yacht in the 85′-100′ range usually accommodates 12 guests across five to six en-suite cabins with ample entertaining space on the flybridge and aft deck. For larger groups that prioritise open deck space, stability in the Gulf’s occasionally choppy winter seas, and a more social layout, a 60′+ catamaran is well worth considering.
Many nationalities, including UK, EU, US, and GCC citizens, can obtain a visa on arrival at Kuwait International Airport, valid for up to 90 days. Others may need to apply through a Kuwaiti embassy or online portal in advance, a process that typically takes five to ten working days. Your Boatcrowd broker can advise on the current entry requirements for your specific nationality.
Yacht charter Kuwait unveils a lesser-known stretch of the northern Arabian Gulf, where the crescent sweep of Kuwait Bay frames a skyline punctuated by the iconic 372-metre Liberation Tower and the sail-inspired Kuwait Towers, landmarks best admired from the water at golden hour. Around 10 charter vessels operate from Marina Crescent and Souq Sharq Marina, including 68′-98′ motor yachts, superyachts above 100′, and 55′+ catamarans, all outfitted for the warm Gulf climate with shaded aft decks, mist-cooling systems, and generous swim platforms for water-sports sessions between anchorages. The ideal season spans November to April, when temperatures sit at a comfortable 18 to 26°C, winter sunsets paint the Gulf in amber and rose, and events like Hala February and the Kuwait International Book Fair animate the capital. Shoulder weeks in October and early May remain pleasant for coastal cruising with lighter demand and more negotiable rates. Daily rates start from around $3,000/day; Kuwait levies no VAT on charter services, though a 30 to 35% APA applies for fuel, provisions, and berth fees, making overall costs notably competitive with neighbouring Gulf states. Kuwait’s distinct advantage is exclusivity: uncrowded anchorages around Failaka Island’s Greek-era archaeological ruins, the gin-clear reef flats of Kubbar Island where turtles nest between April and August, and the mangrove-fringed channels of Bubiyan offer genuine seclusion that is increasingly hard to find elsewhere in the Arabian Gulf.
