Holidays and school breaks that suit these waters
The Amalfi Coast is one of Italy’s most sought-after cruising grounds, so peak-season charters in July and August should be booked six to nine months ahead. Shoulder-season weeks in May, June, or September are often available three to four months out, with better rates and quieter anchorages at popular stops like Positano, Praiano, and the Li Galli islands.
Absolutely. A seven-day charter frequently pairs the Amalfi Coast with Capri and the islands of the Bay of Naples, Ischia and Procida are less than two hours by yacht from Positano. Longer itineraries of ten days or more can extend south towards the Aeolian Islands off Sicily’s north-eastern coast, adding volcanic scenery and outstanding snorkelling to the voyage.
Very much so. The sheltered bays between Positano and Amalfi town provide calm swimming conditions, and most yachts carry paddleboards, kayaks, and inflatable water toys that keep younger guests entertained for hours. Crew are experienced with family groups and can tailor meal times, excursion pace, and daily activities to suit children of all ages.
Standard equipment includes a tender, paddleboards, snorkelling gear, kayaks, and towable inflatables. Larger motor yachts and superyachts often carry jet skis, SeaBobs, and diving equipment as well. The Amalfi Coast’s clear waters and underwater rock formations make snorkelling particularly rewarding, ask your broker about the toy inventory on any yacht you’re considering.
A yacht charter on the Amalfi Coast places you beneath some of Europe’s most dramatic coastal scenery, pastel-painted villages clinging to near-vertical cliffs, terraced lemon orchards scenting the salt air, and cobalt waters stretching towards the Li Galli islands where sirens once sang. The 50-kilometre stretch from Positano to Vietri sul Mare packs more visual intensity per nautical mile than almost any cruising ground in the Mediterranean, with each headland revealing another cascade of bougainvillea tumbling towards a hidden cove. Boatcrowd lists a wide selection of motor yachts from 68’ to 98’, superyachts above 100’, and luxury catamarans from 55’ available for Amalfi charters, drawing from Italy’s fleet of over 180 vessels plus visiting yachts from the wider western Mediterranean.
Peak season spans July and August, when the cliffside restaurants of Positano and the linen-draped terraces of Ravello are at their liveliest; May, June, and September offer gentler light, cooler evenings, and far fewer tender queues at popular landing points like Marina di Praia. Charter rates begin from €4,000 per day on a catamaran, from €4,800 per day on a 68’-78’ motor yacht, and from €9,900 per day on a latest-model 88’-99’ yacht, plus Italian IVA and APA. Nowhere else does the cliff-to-sea ratio create quite this sense of theatre from the sundeck.
