Local knowledgeOld San Juan's ramparts, the bioluminescent bays of Vieques and the Spanish Virgin Islands' empty anchorages sit within one easy itinerary.
For the peak December to April season, six to eight months’ lead time is advisable, particularly over the Christmas and New Year holidays when demand surges. Shoulder months of May and November offer excellent conditions and can often be arranged four to five months ahead with a wider choice of vessels.
US citizens do not need a passport, Puerto Rico is a US territory, so domestic identification is sufficient and no customs or immigration clearance is required. International visitors enter under the same visa requirements as the US mainland; your Boatcrowd broker can confirm the specifics for your nationality and assist with any required documentation.
The base fee covers the yacht, professional crew, insurance, and standard on-board equipment. Fuel, provisions, beverages, marina fees, and any speciality excursions such as bioluminescent-bay kayaking are funded through the APA (30 to 35% of the charter fee). Puerto Rico’s SUT at 11.5% applies to the base rate, and any unspent APA is refunded at the end of the charter.
Yes, and it’s one of the Caribbean’s most popular multi-destination routings. From Culebra or Culebrita the passage east to St Thomas in the USVI is roughly 15 nautical miles, with the BVI just beyond. Your Boatcrowd broker handles all customs clearance between US and British territories and can design a seamless multi-stop itinerary that blends Puerto Rican culture, history, and cuisine with Virgin Islands reef cruising.
Yacht charter Puerto Rico combines Caribbean warmth with unmistakable Latin energy, the pastel-walled colonial streets of Old San Juan, the bioluminescent bays of Vieques glowing electric blue after dark, and the jungle-draped peaks of El Yunque rainforest rising just minutes from sheltered charter anchorages along the east coast. Around 13 locally based charter yachts operate here, with many more visiting each winter, including 68′-98′ motor yachts, 100′+ superyachts, and 55′+ catamarans whose shallow drafts are perfect for exploring the coral-ringed islands of Culebra and Culebrita. December to April is peak season, north-east trades of 12 to 18 knots, dry skies, and water temperatures around 27°C make for ideal cruising, while May and November serve as excellent shoulder months with warmer seas, quieter anchorages, and noticeably softer rates. Daily rates start from approximately $3,500/day for a motor yacht or catamaran, climbing to $12,000+/day on a superyacht, plus Puerto Rico’s 11.5% sales-and-use tax (SUT) and 30 to 35% APA covering fuel, provisions, and marina fees. Puerto Rico’s unique advantage is effortless access for US-based charterers, as a US territory, no passport or customs clearance is required for American citizens, domestic flights connect major hubs to San Juan in under four hours, and the US dollar is the local currency, making logistics as seamless as chartering stateside with all the colour and warmth of the Caribbean.
