Local knowledgeThe Spice Island anchors the southern Windwards: nutmeg-scented hillsides, sheltered southern bays and a short hop to the Grenadines.
The latest additions to the fleet
Yes, many guests sail north from St George’s through Carriacou and Petite Martinique into the Grenadines, visiting the Tobago Cays marine park, Bequia’s Admiralty Bay, and Mustique’s Macaroni Beach over a seven- to ten-day itinerary. The passages are short, typically 15 to 25 nautical miles per leg, leaving ample time for snorkelling, beach barbecues, and on-shore exploration at each stop.
For high season (December to April), booking eight to twelve months ahead is recommended, as Grenada’s smaller fleet means popular catamarans and motor yachts are reserved early by returning clients. Shoulder-season charters in May or November may be available at shorter notice, and many yacht owners offer attractive repositioning discounts during those transitional months.
High-season rates (December to April) are typically 15 to 25 per cent higher than low-season rates (June to October), reflecting stronger demand and limited fleet availability. Shoulder months, May and November, often fall somewhere in between and represent excellent value, combining pleasant sailing conditions with reduced daily rates, more available yachts, and greater itinerary flexibility.
The base daily rate covers the yacht, professional crew, insurance, and standard onboard amenities such as water toys, linens, and cleaning. The APA, usually 30 to 35 per cent of the base fee, is an advance fund for fuel, provisioning, marina fees, and extras such as restaurant reservations or dive excursions. Any unspent APA is refunded at the end of the trip.
Yacht charter Grenada immerses you in the “Spice Isle,” where the warm breeze carries notes of nutmeg, cinnamon, and cocoa from hillside plantations down to volcanic-sand beaches edged by coral reefs teeming with parrotfish and hawksbill turtles. The island’s south-western coast around St George’s, one of the Caribbean’s most picturesque harbour towns, ringed by pastel Georgian warehouses and a hillside fort, provides a sheltered staging point for cruising north towards Carriacou, while the offshore Molinière Underwater Sculpture Park offers a snorkelling experience found nowhere else in the region. The fleet serving Grenada comprises around 15 yachts, including motor yachts of 68′-98′, superyachts above 100′, and luxury catamarans from 55′. Peak season stretches from December through April, with north-east trades of 12 to 18 knots keeping daytime temperatures near 29 °C and the sea comfortably warm at 27 °C; shoulder months of May and November see lighter winds and slightly warmer water, creating ideal conditions for diving and snorkelling.
Daily rates start from $4,300 on a catamaran and from $5,900 on a mid-size motor yacht of 68′-78′, plus APA of approximately 30 to 35 per cent. Grenada’s edge is its unspoilt authenticity, no high-rise resorts, no mega-cruise congestion, just spice-scented trails winding through plantations, rum distilleries pouring from copper pot stills, and anchorages where the only company is a passing fishing pirogue silhouetted against the dawn.
