La Spezia sits at the south-eastern tip of the Ligurian coast, making it easy to extend a charter north-west towards Portofino and the Italian Riviera or south towards Tuscany’s Elba and the wider Tuscan Archipelago. A seven-day itinerary comfortably covers the Cinque Terre, Portovenere, and a night or two in Portofino’s iconic harbour.
Guest capacity depends on the vessel. A 68’-78’ motor yacht typically sleeps eight guests in four cabins, while a superyacht above 100’ can accommodate ten to twelve or more in spacious staterooms with en-suite bathrooms. Catamarans offer generous beam and usually sleep eight to ten guests with excellent communal space on the main deck and flybridge.
The charter fee covers the yacht, professional crew, insurance, and all standard onboard amenities including water toys and tender use. Running costs, fuel, provisioning, port fees, and crew gratuity, are funded through the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), which typically adds 25 to 35% to the base charter fee. Your captain keeps a detailed accounting and refunds any surplus at voyage end.
For July and August charters along the Cinque Terre, book five to seven months ahead to secure your preferred yacht and dates. Shoulder-season weeks in May, June, or September can usually be confirmed with three to four months’ notice, often at rates 20 to 30% below peak-season pricing and with quieter anchorages.
A yacht charter from La Spezia opens the door to one of Italy’s most storied stretches of coastline, the Cinque Terre’s five pastel villages stacked improbably on cliffsides, the Gothic-striped church of San Pietro crowning Portovenere’s headland, and the quieter coves of the Gulf of Poets, where Shelley and Byron once swam beneath the same limestone cliffs you see today. From the deck of a yacht, the Cinque Terre looks entirely different: the terraced vineyards plunge right to the waterline, the narrow-gauge train disappears into tunnels between villages, and the anchorage off Vernazza offers a perspective no footpath can match. Boatcrowd lists motor yachts from 68’ to 98’, superyachts above 100’, and luxury catamarans from 55’ available for La Spezia charters, drawn from Italy’s fleet of over 180 vessels with additional visiting yachts throughout the summer season.
Peak season runs late June through August; May, June, and September provide warm water, clearer hiking trails, and lower charter rates. Rates start from €4,000 per day on a catamaran, from €4,800 per day on a 68’-78’ motor yacht, and from €9,900 per day on a latest-model 88’-99’ yacht, plus Italian IVA and APA. La Spezia is where Ligurian coast culture, pesto pounded in marble mortars, focaccia di Recco, sciacchetrà wine, meets genuinely world-class cruising.
