Shipyard Netherlands est. 1918
Amels began as a family business in the northern Netherlands in 1918. Kommer Damen bought it in 1991 and folded it into Damen Shipyards, one of the largest shipbuilding groups in Europe, and it now works out of Vlissingen.
Its significant idea arrived in 2005: Limited Editions. A hull and superstructure built to a proven, repeated platform — with exterior lines drawn by Tim Heywood — and the interior fully customised. That cut the wait for a Dutch-built superyacht roughly in half without much real compromise, and made 50-80m yachts available to owners who were not prepared to wait four years for one.
The SeaXplorer range is the other half of the Damen inheritance, applying genuine commercial expedition-vessel engineering to yachts capable of high-latitude work rather than merely styled to look as though they are.
Dutch build quality across a fleet running 50m to 69m, and a strong choice when the itinerary leaves the usual circuit.
