Alulim Superyacht

Tiziana Vercellesi designed the interior of Alulim and Officina Italiana Design, under its founder Mauro Micheli, drew her exterior, a pairing that carried her to the final of Boat International's Design and Innovation Awards. Inside that shows as silk wallpaper, parquet, marble and leather, crystal door handles, ebony veneers and inlays of mother-of-pearl, with Fendi furniture indoors and out and wide areas of glass that bring the light off the water into her rooms. She is a 170ft (52m) superyacht, built in 2018 and refitted in 2023, and after dark LED lighting on her hull and underwater lights mark her out in an anchorage.

Comfort under way

She is the only Sanlorenzo classed by ABS for Comfort (Y), her insulation holding noise and vibration low, and her machinery was quietened further after delivery. Her stabilisers work both at anchor and when she is moving, so roll is damped in either case, and she cruises at 12 knots with 18 knots in hand, her fuel use 120 litres an hour.

On deck

Her beach club is built around a tender garage that floods so the 7.5m custom limousine tender, fitted with Bentley lights, can float in and out, and once it is stowed the floor lowers to rejoin the club, with terraces that fold down to port and starboard and hatches set into its side doors so the area can be sealed shut. Daylight reaches it through the glass bottom of the pool on the main deck directly above, and it holds a bar and freestanding furniture, a gym of Technogym machines forward of it and, aft, a swim platform, lengthened at build, that inflatable platforms can widen further – so from the club the water is a few steps away. A deck jacuzzi gives a second place to sit in warm water.

Water toys

Two Seadoo jet skis mean a pair of guests can ride out together, and she carries two Seabob F5S and a single e-foil as well. Water skis, a wakeboard and a towable tube are for being pulled at speed, two paddleboards, two kayaks, a pedal board and floating mats for slower time afloat, and snorkelling and fishing gear complete the set.

Where she cruises

Alulim is based at San Remo in Italy, the longest of the three yachts that keep their home port there, and she cruises the coasts of Italy, France and Monaco, Mediterranean waters her captain knows in depth.

Accommodation and crew

Six cabins sleep twelve guests, in a king-bedded suite, three doubles and two twins, and fourteen can be aboard by day. Eleven crew look after them, the captain from a cabin of his own on the upper deck, which means almost a crew member for each guest, and her calendar peaks in July and August.

Charter notes

Alulim suits two couples or a family, and she is offered as a week's charter or as a three-day rental. Her captain and core crew have sailed her since she first left the yard, so the people who run each week have known her from the start.
