What size are the Lagoon yachts on Boatcrowd?

They run from 11.7m to 24m. Larger yachts carry more crew and more space per guest rather than simply more guests, so tell us your group size and we will point you at the right end of the range.

Why charter a catamaran instead of a monohull?

Space and stability. A catamaran of the same length has far more deck and saloon area, does not heel under sail, and draws much less water, so it reaches shallow anchorages a monohull has to skip. The trade-offs are marina fees, which are charged on beam and so cost more, and slightly less performance upwind.

Lagoon Yacht Charter

Lagoon came out of a racing workshop. Jeanneau set up JTA — Jeanneau Techniques Avancées — for competition boats, and in 1984 the proposal was made to build a fast cruising catamaran on VPLP Design plans. The first two, a pair of 55-footers, launched in 1987. Beneteau bought Jeanneau in 1996 and moved the brand to Construction Navale Bordeaux, where it still builds.

About the shipyard

VPLP have drawn every generation since — the same office behind America's Cup and Vendée Globe boats — and the brief has never really changed: maximum accommodation and stability for a given length. A 45-foot Lagoon sleeps as many people as a considerably longer monohull and does not heel while doing it.

More than 6,000 have been built, from 40 to 78 feet, which is why Lagoon has done more than any other builder to turn the cruising catamaran from a specialist's boat into the default family charter yacht. It also means parts and crews who know them exist in every charter base worth sailing from.

What size are the Lagoon yachts on Boatcrowd?: They run from 11.7m to 24m. Larger yachts carry more crew and more space per guest rather than simply more guests, so tell us your group size and we will point you at the right end of the range.
Why charter a catamaran instead of a monohull?: Space and stability. A catamaran of the same length has far more deck and saloon area, does not heel under sail, and draws much less water, so it reaches shallow anchorages a monohull has to skip. The trade-offs are marina fees, which are charged on beam and so cost more, and slightly less performance upwind.
