Shipyard Italy est. 1969
Azimut started in 1969 as a yacht chartering business run by Paolo Vitelli while he was still a university student in Turin. He moved into building soon after, and that origin still shows: few yards think as hard about how a boat is actually used by guests rather than by its owner. The company bought Benetti in 1985, creating a group that remains one of the largest privately held yacht builders in the world.
The design language arrived at the end of the 1980s with Stefano Righini, whose work became so widely imitated that it effectively set the house style for Italian production yachts for two decades. He drew most of the composite range, and also Benetti's fibreglass hulls.
The engineering signature is weight. Azimut moved to structural carbon fibre well before its competitors — it buys interior volume and deck space without the roll that usually comes with them — and the Grande 35 pairs that with a wave-piercing bow and a hull that crosses from displacement to planing. The Magellano line, launched in 2010, is the deliberate outlier: a long-range hull for owners who want passage-making rather than a fast hop between anchorages.
The most represented yard in our fleet, which makes it the easiest brand to book at short notice and the easiest to compare like for like. Expect generous beam, big flybridges and a layout that pushes guests outside. Sizes run from around 13m to 31m.
