Mangusta Yacht Charter

Giuseppe Balducci founded Overmarine at Viareggio in 1985. The Mangusta name — mongoose, the one animal that will take on a cobra — was a direct shot at the brand that then owned the fast-open market. It landed.

About the shipyard

The Mangusta 80 Open defined the category: 24m, planing, driven by waterjets rather than shafts, with no flybridge and a single continuous deck bow to stern. It stayed in production until 2018. The yard has now built over 320 yachts, more than 130 of them waterjet-driven.

Waterjets are the thing to understand before chartering one. They give the shallow draft that lets a 40m yacht into anchorages a shaft-driven boat of the same size simply cannot enter, and they make close-quarters handling far easier. The Oceano and GranSport ranges added displacement and semi-displacement hulls for owners who wanted the brand without the fuel bill, but the open boats remain the argument.
