About Mangusta yachts

Mangusta was founded in 1985 by Giuseppe Balducci and is still owned by the family through the Overmarine Group, which builds at Viareggio, Massa and Pisa. The yard began as a specialist in fast composite open yachts, the Maxi Open range, and has since widened into two further families: the GranSport, which adds the range for ocean passages to that performance, and the Oceano, built for quiet, long-haul comfort. The yard works at the larger end of the market, and a Mangusta listed here may be a new hull still in build in Italy or a finished yacht lying anywhere from the Mediterranean to Florida.

Questions buyers ask

What should I check on a fast Mangusta that I would not on a slower yacht?

The propulsion and how hard she has been used. The Maxi Open models run on waterjets and are capable of well over thirty knots, so the condition of the jets, the gearboxes and the main engines, their service records and the hours logged each season weigh more heavily than on a displacement hull. A sea trial at full speed, with an engineer aboard, tells you most of what you need to know.

Is a Mangusta built in composite or in steel?

It depends on the line and the length. The open models are composite. The Oceano line brought steel to the yard in 2016 with the tri-deck Namaste, and its larger hulls pair a steel hull with an aluminium superstructure, while the Oceano 39 is composite with a carbon fibre superstructure. Each listing names her model, so ask for the construction details when you compare two.

What does the VAT status on a listing mean?

VAT paid means European Union value added tax has been settled on the yacht and she can be used privately in EU waters without a further liability arising from that. VAT unpaid means it has not been settled, which suits a buyer who will keep the yacht outside the EU or import her under an arrangement of their own. The difference is a significant part of the asking price, so it is worth establishing before an offer is made. Where the seller has given us the status, it is printed on the listing.

How does buying a yacht through Boatcrowd work?

You tell us which yacht interests you through the enquiry form on her listing. We confirm she is still available at the price shown, collect the documents the seller holds, and arrange a viewing wherever she is lying. From there the usual sequence is an offer subject to survey and sea trial, a deposit held in a client account, the survey and trial themselves, and then closing and registration. The Boatcrowd team coordinates each step and stays with you through it.
