Grenada Itineraries: Day Charters and Multi-Day Routes
Grenada’s compact west coast and the island-hopping potential of Carriacou create an outstanding catamaran cruising ground. The major destinations are spaced 5–20 nautical miles apart, with the passage to Carriacou adding an open-water dimension to complement the sheltered coastal cruising. Below are three distinctive day-charter routes and two multi-day itineraries that cover different ground and can be combined into a comprehensive 7-day voyage.
Day Charters
West Coast Marine Park and Sculpture Park
The signature Grenada day charter. Depart Port Louis Marina or Grand Anse and cruise north along the west coast to Molinière Bay (approximately 4 nautical miles). Pick up a mooring buoy in the marine protected area and spend the morning snorkelling among the Underwater Sculpture Park’s 75+ life-sized figures at 5–9 metres depth. The sculptures, colonised by coral and surrounded by tropical fish, are mesmerising. After lunch on the aft deck, continue north to Dragon Bay or Grand Mal for a second snorkel in calm, protected water. Return to Grand Anse for a sunset swim on the 2-mile beach. The quintessential Grenada experience in a single day.
Grand Anse to Hog Island Beach Day
A relaxed day charter for families and beach lovers. Depart Grand Anse and cruise south to Hog Island (approximately 7 nautical miles). Anchor in the calm channel between the island and the mainland, dinghy to the pristine white-sand beach and have the island to yourselves – no facilities, no other visitors, just untouched Caribbean sand and turquoise water. Snorkel the mangrove edges, explore the short hiking trails and lunch on the aft deck. On the return, stop at Magazine Beach for an afternoon swim and reef snorkel. A day of genuine Caribbean seclusion.
Carriacou and Sandy Island
A full-day charter for guests seeking island-hopping adventure. Depart St George’s or Prickly Bay and cruise north-east to Carriacou (approximately 20 nautical miles, 2–3 hours by catamaran). Anchor in Tyrrel Bay and explore the colourful waterfront – rum shops, fishing boats and the boat-building tradition that has defined the island for generations. After lunch, cruise to Sandy Island – a white-sand cay with marine-park snorkelling in crystal-clear turquoise water. Return to Grenada in the late afternoon with the sun setting behind the Grenadines on the horizon.
Multi-Day Itineraries
3-Day Route: Grenada West Coast Discovery
This 3-day itinerary explores Grenada’s west coast in depth – sculptures, beaches, spices and cultural landmarks – covering approximately 25 nautical miles.
Day 1: St George’s to Molinière Bay to Grand Anse
Begin at Port Louis Marina in St George’s. Explore the Carenage, the Saturday market and Fort George in the morning, then cruise north to Molinière Bay for an afternoon snorkel among the Underwater Sculpture Park. The figures at 5–9 metres depth are accessible to all swimming levels and the experience is genuinely extraordinary. Continue south to Grand Anse for a sunset swim on the finest beach in the island. Dinner at a beachfront restaurant or on the aft deck. Overnight at anchor off Grand Anse.
Day 2: Grand Anse to Hog Island to Magazine Beach
Cruise south from Grand Anse to Hog Island (7 nautical miles) for a morning of total seclusion – pristine beach, calm water and not another soul in sight. After a beach barbecue lunch prepared by your crew, cruise to Magazine Beach for an afternoon reef snorkel. The coral gardens just offshore are home to parrotfish, trumpetfish and the occasional turtle. Arrange a late-afternoon shore excursion to the Belmont Estate for the chocolate tour, or the River Antoine distillery for the rum experience. Overnight at anchor off Magazine Beach or in Prickly Bay.
Day 3: Cultural Excursion and Return to St George’s
A morning for cultural exploration. Arrange a spice plantation tour in the interior – nutmeg groves, cinnamon trees, vanilla orchids and cocoa pods, with tastings and a Creole lunch at a garden restaurant. Alternatively, visit Grand Etang National Park for a rainforest hike to the crater lake at 530 metres elevation, with Mona monkeys and tropical birds along the trail. Return to the catamaran for a final afternoon swim at Grand Anse and cruise north to St George’s for disembarkation at Port Louis Marina.
4-Day Route: Carriacou and the Southern Grenadines
This 4-day itinerary ventures beyond Grenada to the sister island of Carriacou and the southern Grenadines – island-hopping, marine parks and deserted beaches – covering approximately 60 nautical miles.
Day 1: St George’s to Carriacou (Tyrrel Bay)
Depart Port Louis Marina in the morning and cruise north-east to Tyrrel Bay, Carriacou (20 nautical miles, 2–3 hours by catamaran). The open-water passage showcases the catamaran’s stability and comfort – the trade winds are typically beam-on and the crossing is exhilarating rather than challenging. Arrive at Tyrrel Bay – one of the most sheltered natural anchorages in the Eastern Caribbean – and spend the afternoon exploring. Walk to Hillsborough for the local market, visit a boat-building shed on the beach and settle into a waterfront rum shop for a sundowner. Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight at anchor in Tyrrel Bay.
Day 2: Sandy Island and Carriacou Reefs
Cruise from Tyrrel Bay to Sandy Island (4 nautical miles) – a white-sand cay off Carriacou’s west coast, surrounded by marine-park reef. Spend the morning snorkelling in turquoise water over coral gardens alive with tropical fish. After lunch on the aft deck, explore Carriacou’s leeward coast – the Tobago Cays and southern Grenadines are visible on the northern horizon. Alternatively, dinghy to the White Island sand spit for a Robinson Crusoe afternoon. Overnight at anchor off Sandy Island or return to Tyrrel Bay.
Day 3: Carriacou to Petite Martinique and Return South
Cruise east to Petite Martinique (5 nautical miles from Tyrrel Bay) – Grenada’s smallest inhabited island, with a population of roughly 900 and a boat-building tradition that stretches back centuries. Anchor in the calm bay and explore the village: fishing boats on the beach, a hilltop view across the entire southern Grenadines, and an authenticity that few Caribbean destinations can match. After lunch, begin the return passage south to Grenada (25 nautical miles to St George’s, 3–4 hours). Arrive in time for a sunset at Grand Anse. Overnight at anchor off Grand Anse or in Prickly Bay.
Day 4: Grand Anse, Molinière Bay and St George’s
A final morning at Grand Anse beach – 2 miles of white sand for a farewell swim. Cruise north to Molinière Bay for a last snorkel among the Underwater Sculpture Park (if not already visited). Continue to St George’s and arrive at Port Louis Marina by early afternoon for disembarkation. If time allows, explore the Carenage, the market and Fort George before heading to the airport. A final Grenadian spice-infused rum punch at a waterfront bar is the perfect farewell.
Guests seeking a comprehensive 7-day Grenada experience can combine the 3-day west-coast discovery with the 4-day Carriacou route, covering every major anchorage, the sculpture park, the spice plantations, the chocolate estate, both sister islands and the finest beaches without repeating a single stop. For a grander Eastern Caribbean itinerary, continue north from Carriacou into the Grenadines – Union Island is just 15 nautical miles from Tyrrel Bay – for a 10–14 day voyage that takes in some of the most spectacular island-hopping cruising in the world.
