Prana I Motor Sailer

Prana I keeps two home ports, Canouan and Mallorca, so a party decides which sea to meet her in before it decides anything else about her. She is a 170ft (52m) motor sailer from Alloy Yachts, drawn inside and out by Dubois, built in New Zealand in 2006 with an aluminium hull and superstructure and refitted in 2012.

On deck

A spa pool sits on her foredeck, and her decks are broad enough to give sunbathing and outdoor dining separate areas, so eating outside and lying in the sun need not compete for the same space. Sonos music linked to Spotify plays throughout her, with the same playlist reachable from the aft deck, the flybridge, the saloon and the cabins.

Water toys

Two Castoldi jet tenders travel with her, a 21ft and a 14ft, each with a Yanmar engine, so two groups can go ashore at the same time in different directions. Two Seabobs carry two riders, four SUP boards let four paddle away from her together, and an AWAKE electric wakeboard completes the toys. Snorkelling gear is aboard as well, for looking into the water at each anchorage and not only swimming in it.

Where she cruises

Her home port is Canouan in the Grenadines, where she is the longest yacht based, and from there she works the rest of the Grenadines along with Grenada, St Lucia and Martinique. Beyond them she reaches Guadeloupe, Antigua and Barbuda, St Barths, St Martin and Anguilla, a Caribbean range that runs well beyond the waters around her home port. From her second home port her range takes in Spain and Turkey, so the same yacht and the same crew can be met in the Mediterranean as well.

Accommodation and crew

Twelve guests sleep aboard in five staterooms, all of them on the lower deck and each with its own bathroom, and a crew of nine looks after them, so the guests outnumber the crew only narrowly. The master has a king bed, two further staterooms have queen doubles, and the two twins each carry a Pullman berth. By day she carries the same twelve she sleeps, and the group that boards is the group for the whole week.

Comfort under way

As a motor sailer she moves under sail or under power, cruising at 12 knots with 18 knots available when her engines are pushed, and her peak dates fall in December through March and again in July and August.

Charter notes

Prana I suits two couples sharing her or a family, and she is offered for hire by the week. Her second home port is the fact worth holding onto: a party that has come to know her cabins and her crew can book the same yacht again in another sea.
