About yachts over 70 m

Over seventy metres only a few dozen yachts in the world are available at any one time, and each is its own project. These are ships in every respect: classed, commercially capable where the owner wanted it, with crews of twenty and more, tenders that would be yachts elsewhere, and interiors by studios that take one commission at a time. A purchase at this size is measured in months rather than weeks and usually begins with a viewing during a yard period. The Boatcrowd team arranges that.

Questions buyers ask

How many crew does a yacht this size need?

Twenty and upwards, and on the largest yachts considerably more. The structure is a merchant one: master, officers standing watches, a chief engineer with a department, security where the owner requires it, and an interior department that would run a small hotel. Crew rotation, training and accommodation standards are part of the specification at this size, not an afterthought.

Can I see the yacht before making an offer?

Yes, and you should. Viewings are arranged where the yacht is lying, which for much of the fleet means the Mediterranean in summer and the Caribbean or Florida in winter, and they have to be fitted around her own movements and any charters she is running. Tell the Boatcrowd team which yachts you want to see and we will put the itinerary together.

What does the VAT status on a listing mean?

VAT paid means European Union value added tax has been settled on the yacht and she can be used privately in EU waters without a further liability arising from that. VAT unpaid means it has not been settled, which suits a buyer who will keep the yacht outside the EU or import her under an arrangement of their own. The difference is a significant part of the asking price, so it is worth establishing before an offer is made. Where the seller has given us the status, it is printed on the listing.

How does buying a yacht through Boatcrowd work?

You tell us which yacht interests you through the enquiry form on her listing. We confirm she is still available at the price shown, collect the documents the seller holds, and arrange a viewing wherever she is lying. From there the usual sequence is an offer subject to survey and sea trial, a deposit held in a client account, the survey and trial themselves, and then closing and registration. The Boatcrowd team coordinates each step and stays with you through it.
