About yachts between EUR 5m and EUR 10m
Five to ten million euro buys roughly twenty-five to thirty-five metres, and it is the band where commercial certification, permanent crew and proper stabilisation become normal rather than exceptional. Italian and northern European yards are both well represented. Buyers here are often stepping up from a boat they ran themselves, and the change is as much about running a crew as about the yacht. Annual running costs are conventionally reckoned at about a tenth of the purchase price, which is worth planning for from the start.
Questions buyers ask
What does this budget buy?
Around twenty-five to thirty-five metres, and with it the point at which permanent crew, commercial certification and proper stabilisation become the norm. Five cabins, four or five crew and a tender garage are typical. Buyers here are often stepping up from a boat they ran themselves, and the change is as much about employing a crew as about the yacht.
What should I budget for running costs?
It depends far more on how the yacht is used than on what she cost. Crew salaries, berthing, insurance, fuel, annual service and a reserve for the next refit are the standing items, and a yacht that cruises for four months a year costs more to run than one that moves twice. The figure the industry works to is around a tenth of the purchase price a year, which is a starting point for a conversation rather than a quotation.
What does the VAT status on a listing mean?
VAT paid means European Union value added tax has been settled on the yacht and she can be used privately in EU waters without a further liability arising from that. VAT unpaid means it has not been settled, which suits a buyer who will keep the yacht outside the EU or import her under an arrangement of their own. The difference is a significant part of the asking price, so it is worth establishing before an offer is made. Where the seller has given us the status, it is printed on the listing.
How does buying a yacht through Boatcrowd work?
You tell us which yacht interests you through the enquiry form on her listing. We confirm she is still available at the price shown, collect the documents the seller holds, and arrange a viewing wherever she is lying. From there the usual sequence is an offer subject to survey and sea trial, a deposit held in a client account, the survey and trial themselves, and then closing and registration. The Boatcrowd team coordinates each step and stays with you through it.
