Yes. A visiting yacht is granted six months on arrival and can apply to extend her stay, and that temporary stay is not treated as a formal importation, so import taxes are not applied during it. A yacht bought here may already be on such a permission, so ask how long hers runs and what her position will be once it ends, before an offer.

During the dry season, from November to April, when the sea is calm enough for a proper sea trial. In the southwest monsoon from May to October the Andaman side is rougher, which makes a trial less representative of how she is used in season. The island's marinas lie within a short drive of each other, so a single day can cover more than one yacht.

A survey establishes the condition of the hull, the machinery and the systems, and a sea trial shows how she actually behaves at operating speed and at anchor. Offers are normally made subject to both, so the findings can be discussed before anything is final. On a yacht in build the equivalent is the yard's own sequence of inspections and the handover trials at the end of it.
