About yachts with charter income

Every yacht on this page is offered for sale here and is also chartering through Boatcrowd, so there is a published rate card a buyer can read rather than estimate. A yacht in charter has been maintained to a commercial standard, and her charter page carries the weekly rate, the itineraries she runs and what is included. Charter income rarely covers the whole cost of ownership and is not meant to, but it changes the arithmetic.

Questions buyers ask

What does "with charter income" mean on these listings?

It means the yacht is offered for sale and is also in the Boatcrowd charter fleet today. Her listing carries a link to her charter page, where her weekly rate, her cruising ground and what is included are published, so you can read the terms she is chartered on rather than estimate them. What she has actually taken in a season depends on how many of those weeks were sold, which is a question for her owner and not something this page states. It is a description of how she is used now, not a forecast and not a yield.

Does the charter programme continue after a sale?

That is the new owner's decision, and what is agreed is settled in the sale contract rather than assumed. A yacht in charter has been operated commercially, which is the practical starting point for carrying on, and she can equally be taken out of charter. Whether her crew stay, how her certification is held and what happens to any bookings already taken are separate questions with a different answer on every yacht, so ask them about the one you are interested in and the Boatcrowd team will come back with her position.

Can I charter a yacht that is for sale?

Often, yes. A number of the yachts listed here are also available to charter through Boatcrowd, and each of those carries a link to her charter page with the weekly rate and what it includes. A week aboard a yacht you are considering is the most useful week you can spend before making an offer on her.

What does the VAT status on a listing mean?

VAT paid means European Union value added tax has been settled on the yacht and she can be used privately in EU waters without a further liability arising from that. VAT unpaid means it has not been settled, which suits a buyer who will keep the yacht outside the EU or import her under an arrangement of their own. The difference is a significant part of the asking price, so it is worth establishing before an offer is made. Where the seller has given us the status, it is printed on the listing.

How does buying a yacht through Boatcrowd work?

You tell us which yacht interests you through the enquiry form on her listing. We confirm she is still available at the price shown, collect the documents the seller holds, and arrange a viewing wherever she is lying. From there the usual sequence is an offer subject to survey and sea trial, a deposit held in a client account, the survey and trial themselves, and then closing and registration. The Boatcrowd team coordinates each step and stays with you through it.
