For peak season (December to April), booking six to twelve months ahead is strongly recommended, the most popular catamarans and motor yachts fill their calendars by early autumn. Shoulder-season charters in November or May can often be confirmed with two to three months’ notice, and last-minute availability does appear when vessels reposition between the BVI and neighbouring islands.
The base charter fee covers the yacht, professional crew, and all onboard amenities including water toys, snorkelling gear, paddleboards, and linens. Provisioning, food, drinks, fuel, and mooring fees, is handled through the APA, typically 25 to 35% of the charter fee. A 5% BVI charter licence tax applies to the base rate, and crew gratuity of 10 to 20% is customary and paid separately.
Combining the BVI and USVI is one of the Caribbean’s most popular charter routes. The crossing from Tortola’s Road Town to St Thomas is roughly 12 nautical miles, and customs clearance on both sides is straightforward for crewed yachts. A standard seven-day charter comfortably covers highlights of both territories, including The Baths, Jost Van Dyke, St John’s Trunk Bay, and Charlotte Amalie’s harbour.
For a group of 10, a motor yacht of 85′-98′ with five en-suite cabins offers the most generous interior space, a large sundeck for group dining, and a professional crew galley. Luxury catamarans in the 60′-70′ range also accommodate 10 guests and provide excellent stability, wide deck space, and shallow-draft access to the BVI’s most secluded bays.
Yacht charter British Virgin Islands immerses you in one of the world’s most celebrated sailing grounds, a compact archipelago of over 60 islands and cays where the passages are short, the trade winds are steady, and every anchorage opens onto a new shade of Caribbean blue. Sir Francis Drake Channel runs like a sheltered highway through the heart of the territory, flanked by volcanic peaks on Tortola and Virgin Gorda and fringed by coral reefs teeming with hawksbill turtles and parrotfish. Boatcrowd’s BVI fleet numbers over 200 vessels, from luxury catamarans starting at 55′ and motor yachts of 68′-98′ to superyachts above 100′ with full crew, stabilisers, and onboard water-toy garages. Peak season runs December through April, when trade winds blow a reliable 15 to 20 knots and daytime highs settle around 28 °C; the shoulder months of November and May bring lighter winds, warmer water, and noticeably softer rates.
Daily charter prices start from $5,600 on a modern catamaran or mid-size motor yacht and from $10,200 on the latest-model vessels above 78′, plus 5% BVI charter licence tax and an advance provisioning allowance (APA) of typically 25 to 35%. Nowhere else in the Caribbean can you sail between a dozen world-class anchorages, from The Baths’ cathedral-like granite boulders to the floating bars of Jost Van Dyke, without ever losing sight of your next island.
