Feadship is not one yard but an alliance. It formed in 1949, when Dutch builders and the naval architects De Voogt joined forces to sell into the American market under a single name — First Export Association of Dutch Shipbuilders. The lineage behind it runs much further back: the Akerboom family bought a small yard in 1849, and joined with the Van Lents in 1927.
It has never sold a production model and does not intend to. Every Feadship is drawn from scratch for one owner, built in steel and aluminium, and finished to a standard the rest of the industry quietly uses as its reference point. The yard's stated position is that it would rather turn work away than compress a build schedule, which is why the order book runs years deep.
It is not a museum piece either: the 83.5m Savannah was the first hybrid motor yacht anyone built, which is a serious piece of engineering for a yard that could comfortably have coasted on reputation.
