About Philosophy
Two names with long reputations in yacht design stand behind Philosophy's calm, understated interior, and Feadship, the Dutch yard known for precision over spectacle, built her in 2015. At 499 gross tons across four cabins she carries real volume for a 44-metre motor yacht. She is offered for sale through Boatcrowd from her berth in Tuzla, Turkey.
Build and provenance
Her naval architecture comes from De Voogt Naval Architects, and Bannenberg and Rowell drew the interior: a pairing that gives Philosophy engineering pedigree and a coherent look throughout. She has a steel hull with an aluminium superstructure, the usual combination on a full-displacement motor yacht her size. At eleven years old she has moved well past the settling-in period a brand new hull goes through.
Layout and accommodation
Eight guests sleep in four cabins, including a full-beam owner's suite, each finished en suite. A crew of eight look after them, one crew member for every guest, a full-service ratio rather than a lean one. The interior favours large windows and a restrained palette over heavy ornament, in keeping with the Bannenberg and Rowell hand throughout.
Performance and engineering
Twin Caterpillar engines give Philosophy a 12-knot cruise, a pace that suits a full-displacement hull built for long, settled passages rather than sprinting between anchorages. Her 9.1-metre beam gives her the width a hull like this needs to stay steady at that speed.

Buying Costs
- Survey
- A buyer normally commissions a condition survey, and a sea trial, once an offer is accepted and before the sale becomes unconditional. The cost depends on her size and on where she is lifted, and it is the buyer who appoints the surveyor.
- Registration and flag
- She will be registered on a flag of the buyer's choosing, which carries its own fees and its own survey and crew requirements. Where the yacht is owned through a company, the shares rather than the vessel may change hands, which changes what is payable.
- VAT and import
- Whether VAT is due, and where, depends on the yacht's current status, her flag, the buyer's residency and where she is delivered. Where the seller has stated her VAT status, it is shown with the asking price on her page, and it is confirmed in writing before an offer is made.
- Running costs
- Crew, berthing, insurance, class and annual maintenance continue from the day she is yours. A yacht that is also chartered earns against them, and we will set out what her season has actually returned before you commit.
