Local knowledgeBora Bora's lagoon and the Tuamotus' pristine atolls sail year-round, at their finest in the dry austral winter.
Holidays and school breaks that suit these waters
For the peak May to October dry season, six to nine months’ lead time is strongly recommended, especially during the July to August European holiday window and the Heiva i Tahiti cultural festival (July). Whale-watching season (August to October) also drives strong demand. The warmer November to April season can often be arranged four to five months ahead at softer rates.
The base rate covers the yacht, professional crew, insurance, and standard on-board equipment including snorkelling gear. Fuel, provisions, beverages, harbour fees, and any dive or cultural excursions are funded through the APA (30 to 35% of the charter fee). French Polynesia levies no VAT on charter fees for international visitors, making it one of the most tax-efficient charter destinations in the Pacific. Any unspent APA is refunded.
Yes, and it’s one of the South Pacific’s most spectacular routings. The classic itinerary sails west from Tahiti through Moorea, Huahine, Raiatea, and Taha’a to Bora Bora over seven to ten days. For the adventurous, the Tuamotu atolls (Rangiroa, Fakarava) lie roughly 200 nautical miles north-east and offer some of the world’s finest drift diving. Your Boatcrowd broker designs the optimal routing around wind and tide.
Citizens of the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, and most Western countries can enter French Polynesia visa-free for up to 90 days. As an overseas collectivity of France, standard Schengen rules apply for EU nationals. Your Boatcrowd broker can confirm the latest entry requirements for your nationality and assist with any pre-arrival documentation.

May to October is peak season, the dry Austral winter brings blue skies, 26 to 29°C temperatures, gentle south-east trades, and humpback-whale sightings in the passes. November to April is warmer and lusher with tropical showers and softer pricing. Daily rates start from approximately $2,500/day on a catamaran, climbing to $9,000+/day on a superyacht, plus French Polynesia’s VAT-free charter advantage (no TVA on charter fees for international visitors) and 30 to 35% APA for fuel, provisions, and harbour fees. Tahiti’s defining magic is the gateway promise, a single night in Papeete connects you to the entire Society Islands chain, with Moorea’s shark-filled lagoons just 17 nautical miles west and Bora Bora’s iconic silhouette a scenic day-sail beyond.
