Yacht Charter in the Whitsundays

Q: How far in advance should I book a Whitsundays charter?

For the peak June–October dry season, six to nine months’ lead time is strongly recommended, especially during the Australian school holidays in June–July and September–October. The most popular catamarans and motor yachts fill early for the whale-watching season of July–September. Shoulder months in May and November can often be arranged four to five months ahead.

Q: Can I combine the Whitsundays with the Great Barrier Reef?

Absolutely – the outer Great Barrier Reef lies roughly 40 nautical miles east of the Whitsunday Islands, making it a comfortable day-trip or overnight anchorage by motor yacht. Your Boatcrowd broker can design an itinerary that balances island-hopping within the Whitsundays with dedicated reef dives and snorkelling on the outer reef, including Hardy Reef and Bait Reef.

Median weekly rate $95,000. Base rate, before APA and tax.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book a Whitsundays charter?

For the peak June to October dry season, six to nine months’ lead time is strongly recommended, especially during the Australian school holidays in June to July and September to October. The most popular catamarans and motor yachts fill early for the whale-watching season of July to September. Shoulder months in May and November can often be arranged four to five months ahead.

What is included in the charter price?

The base rate covers the yacht, professional crew, insurance, and standard on-board equipment including snorkelling gear and the tender. Fuel, provisions, beverages, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park fees, and any dive or fishing excursions are funded through the APA (30 to 35% of the charter fee). Australian GST at 10% applies to the base rate, and any unspent APA is refunded at the end of the voyage.

Can I combine the Whitsundays with the Great Barrier Reef?

Absolutely, the outer Great Barrier Reef lies roughly 40 nautical miles east of the Whitsunday Islands, making it a comfortable day-trip or overnight anchorage by motor yacht. Your Boatcrowd broker can design an itinerary that balances island-hopping within the Whitsundays with dedicated reef dives and snorkelling on the outer reef, including Hardy Reef and Bait Reef.

Is the Whitsundays suitable for families with young children?

The Whitsundays are exceptionally family-friendly. The calm, sheltered waters between the islands are ideal for young swimmers and first-time snorkellers, Whitehaven Beach is a natural playground with warm shallows stretching hundreds of metres, and turtle encounters are almost guaranteed. Crews are experienced at tailoring menus, daily pace, and water activities for younger guests, making this one of Australia’s top family charter destinations.

Yacht Charter Whitsundays

Yacht charter Whitsundays immerses you in 74 continental islands scattered across the turquoise Coral Sea, a cruising ground where Whitehaven Beach’s seven-kilometre sweep of silica sand (98% pure quartz) shifts from blinding white to swirling aquamarine with every tide, sea turtles glide through the warm shallows of the fringing reefs, and the Hill Inlet lookout reveals a natural palette no camera can quite capture. The Whitsundays draw from Australia’s fleet of over 40 charter yachts: 68′-98′ motor yachts perfect for island-hopping between Hayman, Hamilton, and Hook Islands, 100′+ superyachts that anchor in the deep waters of Cid Harbour, and 55′+ catamarans whose stability and shallow drafts suit the reef lagoons and family cruising.

June to October is peak season, the dry tropical winter brings blue skies, 24 to 27°C days, calm seas, and humpback-whale sightings as pods migrate through the passage. The shoulder months of May and November offer warmer water, fewer fellow yachts, and softer pricing. Daily rates start from $7,500/day, climbing to $12,500+/day on superyachts above 89′, plus 10% Australian GST and 30 to 35% APA for fuel, provisions, and marine-park fees. The Whitsundays’ irreplaceable appeal is concentrated tropical beauty, world-class beaches, abundant reef life, and sheltered sailing water all within a compact island group reachable by a short flight from any major Australian city.
