About tri-deck yachts in Italy

A tri-deck yacht has three full decks above the waterline, and the third one usually belongs to the owner. Lengths among the tri-deck yachts listed in Italy run from 22 m to 55 m. Imperia, Naples and Genoa are among the ports they are lying at. Eight of them are in build.

Buying in Italy

VAT and tax
Italy is in the EU VAT area and its standard VAT rate is 22% as at September 2026. A "VAT paid" yacht is one with the customs status of Union goods, in free circulation in the EU with import VAT settled. A non-EU-registered yacht owned by a person established outside the EU can generally use EU waters privately under temporary admission for up to 18 months without paying import duty or VAT. Read our VAT and tax guide
Flag and registration
Italian pleasure craft are entered in the central electronic archive of pleasure units (ATCN), which issues the navigation licence; yachts over 24 metres are classed as pleasure ships, and those used exclusively for international tourist charter can be entered in the Italian International Register. Foreign individuals and non-Italian companies registering in Italy must appoint a representative resident in Italy, and many large yachts in Italian waters fly foreign flags instead.
Berths
Marina Genova has superyacht berths from 65 to 130 metres, Portosole Sanremo takes yachts up to 90 metres, and Marina d'Arechi at Salerno offers 1,000 berths from 10 to 100 metres. Summer berths for larger yachts on the Riviera and in the south are in demand and are usually arranged well ahead of the season.
Refit and survey
Genoa is a major refit centre: Amico & Co operates a 4,000 tonne shiplift and a dry dock of 170 metres alongside a technical marina. Marina d'Arechi at Salerno has a shipyard of over 7,000 square metres with a 220 tonne travel lift for smaller refit and maintenance work.
When to view
The Mediterranean season runs broadly from May to October, when yachts cruise the Ligurian Riviera, Sardinia, the Amalfi Coast and the islands. The Genoa International Boat Show takes place in September, and the Salerno Boat Show at Marina d'Arechi is held in November (6 to 11 November in 2026).

Questions buyers ask

How does buying a yacht through Boatcrowd work?

You tell us which yacht interests you through the enquiry form on her listing. We confirm she is still available at the price shown, collect the documents the seller holds, and arrange a viewing wherever she is lying. From there the usual sequence is an offer subject to survey and sea trial, a deposit held in a client account, the survey and trial themselves, and then closing and registration. The Boatcrowd team coordinates each step and stays with you through it.

What does the VAT status on a listing mean?

VAT paid means European Union value added tax has been settled on the yacht and she can be used privately in EU waters without a further liability arising from that. VAT unpaid means it has not been settled, which suits a buyer who will keep the yacht outside the EU or import her under an arrangement of their own. The difference is a significant part of the asking price, so it is worth establishing before an offer is made. Where the seller has given us the status, it is printed on the listing.

Why do some listings say Price on Request?

Because the seller has chosen not to publish a figure. It is common at the top of the market and on yachts that have only just come available, and it says nothing about where the price sits in either direction. Send an enquiry from the listing and the Boatcrowd team will come back to you with the number and with what it includes.

Do I need a survey and a sea trial?

On any yacht that has been in the water, yes. A survey establishes the condition of the hull, the machinery and the systems, and a sea trial shows how she actually behaves at operating speed and at anchor. Offers are normally made subject to both, so the findings can be discussed before anything is final. On a yacht in build the equivalent is the yard's own sequence of inspections and the handover trials at the end of it.
