Eleuthera Itineraries: Day Charters and Multi-Day Yacht Routes
Eleuthera rewards a slower pace. Its coastline stretches 180 km, offering sheltered Caribbean anchorages on the west, dramatic Atlantic scenery on the east, and tiny settlements that reveal genuine Bahamian life. The itineraries below cover different stretches of the island and can be combined for a longer voyage that includes Harbour Island and a return to Nassau.
Day Charter Routes
Governor’s Harbour Beach Day
If based locally, spend a day anchored off Governor’s Harbour. Morning: snorkel the patch reefs on the Caribbean side. Lunch on French Leave Beach with a crew-prepared picnic. Afternoon: explore the town’s pastel colonial architecture and pick up fresh pineapple from a roadside stand. Return to the yacht for sunset cocktails. Duration: 6–8 hours.
Current Cut Drift-Snorkel
From a base in northern Eleuthera, cruise to Current Cut for a tidal drift-snorkel (your captain times it for optimal flow). The current carries you past coral walls teeming with jacks, barracuda, and reef fish. Afterwards, anchor off Current Island for a quiet beach lunch. Duration: 5–7 hours.
3-Day Eleuthera Yacht Charter Itinerary: Southern Eleuthera Discovery
Day 1: Nassau to Governor’s Harbour
Depart Nassau and cruise east to Eleuthera (80 km, approximately 3 hours). Anchor at Governor’s Harbour and spend the afternoon on French Leave Beach’s pink-tinged sand. Optional drift-snorkel at Current Cut if tidal conditions allow. Dinner on board featuring fresh catch from the Governor’s Harbour dock.
Day 2: Rock Sound, Blue Hole, and Lighthouse Beach
Cruise south along Eleuthera’s sheltered Caribbean coast to Rock Sound. Explore the town’s colonial centre, then take a short drive or hike inland to Rock Sound’s ocean blue hole – a deep inland pool connected to the sea, swimmable and eerily beautiful. Continue to the southern tip of Eleuthera for Lighthouse Beach, a wild, windswept pink-sand crescent with virtually no visitors. Beach picnic lunch with the Atlantic crashing on one side. Return north in the afternoon, anchoring near Tarpum Bay for an evening of calm water and a spectacular sunset dinner on deck.
Day 3: Glass Window Bridge, Gregory Town, and Return to Nassau
Cruise north along the Caribbean coast, stopping ashore at the Glass Window Bridge for the iconic Atlantic-Caribbean photo opportunity. Continue to Gregory Town to explore the pineapple farms and (if you’re adventurous) the Atlantic surf break. Snorkel the patch reefs off the Current in the late morning, then begin the return cruise to Nassau (80 km, 3 hours). Arrive by late afternoon.
4-Day Eleuthera Yacht Charter Itinerary: North Eleuthera and Harbour Island Immersion
Day 1: Nassau to Northern Eleuthera
Cruise from Nassau to the northern end of Eleuthera (approximately 80 km, 3 hours). Anchor in the lee of the island near the settlement of The Current. Spend the afternoon drift-snorkelling Current Cut at optimal tide, followed by a swim at a sheltered cove. Dinner on board.
Day 2: Glass Window Bridge and Gregory Town
Short morning cruise south to the Glass Window Bridge. Go ashore for photos of the Atlantic-Caribbean divide, then continue to Gregory Town. Explore the pineapple farms, hike the bluffs for panoramic views, and (in winter) watch the surfers tackle the reef break. Afternoon: snorkel the patch reefs off the western shore. Reposition north toward Harbour Island.
Day 3: Harbour Island
Full day at Harbour Island. Stroll Dunmore Town’s pastel lanes and boutique shops. Walk the three-mile Pink Sand Beach. Lunch at Sip Sip (lobster quesadillas and ocean views). Afternoon: horseback riding, spa, or swimming. Dinner at The Landing or Rock House.
Day 4: Spanish Wells and Return to Nassau
Short cruise to Spanish Wells for a morning stroll through the lobster-fishing capital of the Bahamas. Buy fresh-off-the-boat lobster for a farewell lunch. Depart mid-morning for Nassau (80 km, 2.5–3 hours), arriving mid-afternoon.
