Westport Yacht Charter

Westport spent its first three decades building commercial fishing vessels and passenger ferries for the North Pacific — about as unforgiving a brief as boatbuilding offers — and then spent the 1980s and 90s moulding hulls for other people's yacht brands, Christensen among them. It only turned to building its own luxury yachts in 1997, backed by Bayliner's founder John Orin Edson.

About the shipyard

That history explains the method. Westport tools a hull properly and then builds it repeatedly, rather than starting each project from nothing. Decks come out of one-piece moulds that integrate coamings, seat bases and even the hot tub as a single unit, so hull and superstructure fit exactly. A 40m yacht arrives in a fraction of the usual time with the bugs already found.

Composite at this size is the enabling decision: lighter than steel, quick enough to be useful, and consistent in a way custom builds rarely manage. The W130 launched at Fort Lauderdale in 2001 and remains the definitive example.
