Serengeti Motor Yacht

Two tenders travel with Serengeti: an 18' Novurania Como from 2023, and a 34' Allied Liberator rigged for sport fishing, diving and trips ashore, so two parties can be away from her at the same time in boats of their own. She is a 130ft (40m) Westport motor yacht, built in 2002 and refitted in 2014.

Where she cruises

Anchorage, Alaska, is her home port and Alaska's coast is her cruising ground, with June, July and August the busiest months of her year: glaciers, warm springs and anchorages far from any harbour, with whales and brown bears among the wildlife along it.

Accommodation and crew

Twelve guests sleep aboard in five cabins. The master stateroom takes the full beam of the main deck, and the remaining four are two king staterooms and two twins, all with ensuite bathrooms. A crew of eight looks after them and runs the excursions and the wildlife spotting, and leads barbecues and stargazing as well.

Comfort under way

She cruises at 15 knots with 18 knots available, and because her outdoor decks are temperature controlled, and a full eisenglass enclosure can close in the whole of the main deck aft and the flybridge, those decks stay comfortable places to be while she is moving.

On deck

A wooden table made for her seats twelve outside, so the whole party can sit down together in the open air, and a deck jacuzzi, a beach club and a swim platform put the water within easy reach. Five yoga mats come with two crew members who can lead a session on them, and a telescope is kept aboard for the stars and the northern lights.

Water toys

The toys are where Serengeti puts her effort. Two Yamaha Wave Runners give two riders a machine each, an e-foil carries a rider above the surface on a powered wing, and there is a Hover Jet Board besides. Under paddle there are four kayaks and two inflatable paddleboards for getting away from her without an engine. Two wakeboards and two water skis come in an adult size and a kids' size of each, and two foam surf boards, snorkelling gear with wetsuits and spearfishing gear take the party into the water. Fishing is the deepest part of the kit, with rods and tackle for casting, trawling, bottom fishing and fly fishing for salmon. Beach toys and a Can Jam set with its frisbee are for the shore, and a portable pizza oven can go out on the tender.

Charter notes

Serengeti suits two couples or a family who want fishing, paddling and hiking to be the substance of a yacht charter, and her hire is by the week. Her captain and her deck crew are fishermen and hikers in their own right, so the people guiding the fishing and the hikes are the same people running the boat.
