Ascente Motor Yacht
About Ascente
Two tenders travel with Ascente, and the smaller of them is the detail worth noticing: a 14ft Rendova RIB, carried as well as a 28ft Jeanneau NC with twin Yamaha outboards, so two parties can go ashore at the same time. She is a 112ft (34m) Westport motor yacht, custom built in 1994 with Gregory Marshall Design and refitted in 2017, and rugged coastline and remote, secluded shores are what she is for.
Water toys
Three paddleboards, two single kayaks and two double kayaks launch from her swim platform, so several guests can be out on the water at once under their own paddle, and a Sea-Doo Spark and a Touring Spark Sea-Doo are aboard for anyone who would rather move fast. For the snorkelling she carries dry suits as well as wetsuits.
Where she cruises
A charter in Alaska aboard Ascente works out of Juneau, her home port, along a rugged coast of remote and secluded shores, with June, July and August as her peak months. What Alaska offers is salmon fishing and whale watching, and she carries fishing gear for the first.
Accommodation and crew
Five staterooms and a convertible sofa in the skylounge sleep twelve guests, and seven crew look after them, with the same twelve aboard by day. The four VIP staterooms each carry a queen berth, a glass shower, a large vanity and an electric fireplace, and the full-beam primary stateroom adds a jacuzzi tub to its own glass shower and fireplace, so each of the five staterooms has its own fire.
Comfort under way
Twin Volvo Penta diesels move her at 9 knots, 10 at most, on 170 litres an hour, and her stabilisers work under way and at anchor alike, which takes the roll out of the passage and out of the night.
On deck
The jacuzzi on the flybridge seats four, and round fire pits on the open deck come with fireside dining, so a meal can be taken outdoors beside the flames, with a BBQ for the cooking and sun sails to put shade over the deck. Inside, a spacious salon and a skylounge give two separate rooms to sit in.
Charter notes
Ascente suits two couples or a family of up to twelve who are hiring her for the kind of coast she works, and the fact that quietly carries the week is her Vitapur water purification system, which means the water aboard has been treated on board.
