Yacht charter San Blas immerses you in one of the Caribbean’s most untouched island chains – a constellation of roughly 365 palm-topped coral cays scattered across the turquoise shallows of the Guna Yala territory along Panama’s north-eastern coast, where the indigenous Guna people maintain a way of life largely unchanged for centuries. Around 10 charter yachts access the archipelago, including 68′–98′ motor yachts with shallow drafts suited to the reef-studded waters, 55′+ catamarans whose beam and stability make them the ideal platform for island-hopping between sandbars, and a smaller number of 100′+ superyachts that anchor in the deeper channels and tender guests ashore. December to April is prime season – the trade winds settle into a steady 12–18 knots, rainfall is minimal, and water visibility frequently exceeds 25 metres over coral gardens alive with parrotfish, eagle rays, and nurse sharks. The green season from May to November is quieter, warmer, and punctuated by brief afternoon showers that only deepen the jungle green of the mainland backdrop. Daily rates start from roughly $3,500/day for a catamaran or motor yacht, plus 7% Panamanian ITBMS and 30–35% APA covering fuel, provisions, and Guna community fees. San Blas’s magic lies in radical simplicity – no roads, no resorts, no Wi-Fi on most islands, just hammocks slung between coconut palms, freshly caught lobster grilled on the beach, and water so clear your dinghy appears to float on air.

For the peak December–April trade-wind season, five to seven months’ lead time is recommended – the small fleet of shallow-draft vessels fills quickly during the driest months. Green-season charters (May–November) offer more flexibility and can sometimes be secured with two to three months’ notice.
Yes. San Blas lies within the autonomous Guna Yala territory, and all visiting vessels must pay a community entry fee and abide by local regulations, including restrictions on drone use and spearfishing. Your Boatcrowd broker coordinates all permits and fee payments before departure so the arrival is smooth and respectful of Guna customs.
The base rate covers the yacht, professional crew, insurance, and standard equipment. Fuel, provisions, beverages, Guna Yala community fees, and any snorkelling or fishing equipment hire are funded through the APA (30–35% of the charter fee). Panamanian ITBMS at 7% applies to the base charter rate, and any unspent APA is returned after the voyage.
San Blas is wonderfully family-friendly – the calm, shallow lagoons are perfect for young swimmers and paddleboarders, and the novelty of uninhabited island picnics, starfish-spotting in ankle-deep water, and meeting Guna artisans captivates children of all ages. Most yachts carry child-sized life jackets, snorkelling gear, and inflatable toys, and the gentle rhythm of island-hopping between palm-fringed sandbars keeps younger guests happily entertained all day.
