Blue Octane Sailing Catamaran

Fishing tackle travels with Blue Octane, and her layout is unusually even-handed: four cabins, a queen bed in each, eight guests, and not a lesser room among them. She is a 52ft (16m) sailing catamaran from Lagoon, launched in 2019.

On deck

Her swim platform puts the sea at deck level, so getting afloat is a matter of walking down rather than climbing anywhere. Air conditioning runs through the interior, cooling the cabins after hours in the sun.

Water toys

A Seabob and a paddleboard go with her, along with towables for anyone who likes being pulled through the water and snorkelling gear for slower swimming. Her 13ft tender carries eight, so the whole party can go ashore together.

Where she cruises

Tortola is her home port, and the British Virgin Islands and the USVI are her regular ground. Blue Octane also cruises to St Martin, St Barths and Anguilla, which widens the choice of anchorages well beyond the British Virgin Islands.

Accommodation and crew

Two crew come with the rental, a captain who has worked these waters and a chef who cooks aboard, so the sailing and the meals sit in the same two pairs of hands.

Comfort under way

She cruises at 8 knots with 12 available, and a draft of 5ft lets her anchor close to shore.

Charter notes

Blue Octane suits a family, children welcome aboard, or a group of friends, and a charter with her starts at four days, with December, January, February and March her busiest months. By day she can have twelve people on board, so more can share the sailing than she sleeps overnight.
