Southern Queen Sailing Catamaran

Every cabin aboard Southern Queen carries a queen bed – five of them, sleeping ten guests – and she goes out with fishing gear and two Waydoo Seascooters on board. She is a 54ft (16m) sailing catamaran from Bali Catamarans, built in 2025.

Water toys

Eight toys travel with her in all. Two kayaks let a pair paddle off together, a single SUP board gives a slower way across the water, and a towable tube and floating mats cover both being pulled along fast and lying still on the sea. Snorkelling gear opens up what lies beneath her hulls, beach games come along for time on the sand, and a 14ft Caribe Marine tender takes guests ashore.

Where she cruises

Her home port is Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, and from there she works the British Virgin Islands and the USVI. Puerto Rico, Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama are also among her grounds, so a group has a wide spread of coasts to pick from when deciding where to take her.

Accommodation and crew

A crew of two runs her and looks after the guests, and her most sought-after weeks fall from December through to March. She has air conditioning and Wi-Fi, so there is cooled air to come back to and a connection for anyone who has to stay in touch.

Comfort under way

She cruises at 8 knots and makes 10 at most, an unhurried pace, and she sits level on her two hulls, so a passage is made on a flat deck rather than a leaning one.

On deck

A Bimini gives shade outside, her BBQ means meals can be cooked in the open air, and the swim platform puts the sea a single step away.

Charter notes

Southern Queen suits two couples as well as a family, and a charter runs by the week, with shorter bookings also offered. On a hire of the whole boat ten sleep aboard, yet twelve can be with her by day, so a family need not cap the party at those who hold a cabin.
