Abacos Itineraries: Day Charters and Multi-Day Yacht Routes
The Abacos’ charm lies in short hops between character-filled cays. Most cruises are under 30 minutes, leaving the day free for exploring villages, snorkelling, fishing, and beach time. The itineraries below use Marsh Harbour as the base and cover different cays so the 3-day and 4-day routes can be combined into a seamless week.
Day Charter Routes from Marsh Harbour
Hope Town Lighthouse and Sandy Cay
Cruise 20 minutes from Marsh Harbour to Elbow Cay. Explore Hope Town’s no-car village and climb the Elbow Reef Lighthouse. Tender to Sandy Cay for a sheltered snorkel over coral heads and a beach picnic. Return to Marsh Harbour via Tahiti Beach on Elbow Cay’s southern tip. Duration: 6–8 hours.
Treasure Cay Beach Day
Head north from Marsh Harbour (30 minutes) to Treasure Cay’s legendary 5.5-km beach. Spend the day swimming, paddleboarding, and picnicking on what is regularly ranked among the world’s best beaches. Stop at Green Turtle Cay for a Goombay Smash on the way home. Duration: 7–8 hours.
3-Day Abacos Yacht Charter Itinerary: Southern Cays Circuit
Day 1: Marsh Harbour to Hope Town (Elbow Cay)
Embark at Marsh Harbour marina and cruise 20 minutes to Elbow Cay. Explore Hope Town’s pastel lanes and climb the Elbow Reef Lighthouse for panoramic views. Lunch at a harbourside restaurant, then spend the afternoon snorkelling Sandy Cay’s coral heads and swimming at Tahiti Beach. Sunset dinner on the yacht, anchored in Hope Town’s picturesque harbour.
Day 2: Man-O-War Cay and Great Guana Cay
Short morning cruise to Man-O-War Cay. Stroll the tidy village, visit the Sail Shop for handmade canvas bags, and admire the traditional boat-building craft. After a quick swim, cruise north to Great Guana Cay. Spend the afternoon on the Atlantic-facing beach (one of the best in the Abacos) and, if it’s a Sunday, join the legendary pig roast at Nipper’s Beach Bar. Overnight anchored off Great Guana.
Day 3: Fowl Cay Reef, Pelican Cays, and Return to Marsh Harbour
Morning snorkel at Fowl Cay’s surrounding reef – healthy corals, abundant fish, and excellent visibility. Continue south to the Pelican Cays Land and Sea Park for a second snorkel on the park’s protected coral heads. Farewell lunch on board as you cruise back to Marsh Harbour, arriving by mid-afternoon.
4-Day Abacos Yacht Charter Itinerary: Northern Cays and Bonefishing
Day 1: Marsh Harbour to Green Turtle Cay
Cruise north from Marsh Harbour (45 minutes) to Green Turtle Cay. Explore New Plymouth’s loyalist village – the Albert Lowe Museum, Miss Emily’s Blue Bee Bar for a Goombay Smash, and the pastel clapboard houses that make this one of the prettiest settlements in the Bahamas. Afternoon: swim at Coco Bay or Gillam Bay beach. Dinner on the yacht or ashore at a local restaurant.
Day 2: Treasure Cay and Whale Cay Passage
Short cruise to Treasure Cay for a morning on its legendary 5.5-km beach. After a beach picnic, cruise through the Whale Cay Passage (your captain will time this for optimal conditions) and head south toward Great Guana Cay. Afternoon at Nipper’s Beach Bar or on the Atlantic beach. Overnight anchored off Great Guana.
Day 3: Bonefishing the Marls and Man-O-War Cay
For fishing enthusiasts, the morning is dedicated to a guided bonefishing session on the Marls – Great Abaco’s western flats, legendary among fly-fishing aficionados. Non-anglers can explore Man-O-War Cay’s boat-building heritage and village charm. Regroup for lunch on board, then cruise to Elbow Cay for an afternoon at Tahiti Beach. Sunset from Hope Town’s lighthouse lookout.
Day 4: Hope Town, Sandy Cay, and Return to Marsh Harbour
Morning in Hope Town: coffee at a village café, a final lighthouse climb, and a wander through the narrow lanes. Snorkel Sandy Cay’s coral heads, then enjoy a farewell brunch on the sun deck as the yacht returns to Marsh Harbour. Arrive by early afternoon.
