Holidays and school breaks that suit these waters
For the peak humpback-whale season of December to April, booking eight to ten months ahead is strongly recommended, the limited fleet of around 10 vessels fills early, especially over the holiday period. Summer charters (May to September) offer calmer seas and can often be arranged five to six months ahead with broader availability.
The base rate covers the yacht, professional crew, insurance, and standard on-board equipment including the tender and snorkelling gear. Fuel, provisions, beverages, harbour fees, and any specialist activities such as dive excursions or lū’au reservations are funded through the APA (30 to 35% of the charter fee). Hawaii’s GET at 4.712% applies to the base rate, and any unspent APA is refunded after the voyage.
Yes, inter-island cruising is one of Hawaii’s great charter strengths. The most popular routing links Maui, Lāna’i, and Moloka’i, with open-water crossings of 9 to 25 nautical miles between islands. Longer itineraries can include the Big Island or Kaua’i, though the ‘Alenuihāhā Channel crossing to the Big Island demands a capable vessel, experienced crew, and settled weather windows for a safe, comfortable, and memorable crossing.
Hawaii is an outstanding family charter destination. The sheltered waters of Maui’s west coast and the Lāna’i shoreline offer calm snorkelling, and close-range humpback-whale encounters in winter captivate guests of every age. Most yachts carry child-friendly snorkelling gear, paddleboards, and inflatable toys, and crews are experienced at adapting menus, daily pace, and shore excursions to suit younger travellers and multi-generational groups travelling together.
