MM38 Sailing Yacht
About MM38
A draught of 5.9 metres is deep for a 38-metre sailing yacht, until you learn it can shrink at anchor. MM38 pairs a telescopic lifting keel with a retractable drive pod, engineering built to change how she sits in the water. Royal Huisman is building her for delivery in 2028, to a design credited to Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design.
Build and provenance
MM38 is a sloop-rigged monohull under construction at Royal Huisman, drawn to that Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design hull. At 38 metres length overall with a beam of 8.6 metres, she has the volume to carry a lifting keel and a retractable drive pod without giving up living space below.
Layout and accommodation
Ten guests are specified across four cabins, with crew quarters for a complement of six kept separate from the guest accommodation. That crew count, on a yacht built around a lifting keel and a drive pod, points to service that also looks after the engineering.
Performance and engineering
MM38 is designed to cruise at 12.5 knots and reach 15 knots, speeds suited to open-water passages rather than short hops between anchorages.
On deck and at anchor
Her variable draught is the feature that changes how she anchors. The lifting keel and drive pod let her draw less than her working 5.9 metres, opening shallower anchorages that a fixed-keel yacht her size would otherwise have to pass by.
Where she lies and how to see her
MM38 is under construction in the Netherlands, at the yard building her. Boatcrowd will arrange viewings through the build and attend them with you. Once an offer is accepted, we bring in survey now, and a sea trial once she is afloat.

Buying Costs
- Survey
- A buyer normally commissions a condition survey, and a sea trial, once an offer is accepted and before the sale becomes unconditional. The cost depends on her size and on where she is lifted, and it is the buyer who appoints the surveyor.
- Registration and flag
- She will be registered on a flag of the buyer's choosing, which carries its own fees and its own survey and crew requirements. Where the yacht is owned through a company, the shares rather than the vessel may change hands, which changes what is payable.
- VAT and import
- Whether VAT is due, and where, depends on the yacht's current status, her flag, the buyer's residency and where she is delivered. Where the seller has stated her VAT status, it is shown with the asking price on her page, and it is confirmed in writing before an offer is made.
- Running costs
- Crew, berthing, insurance, class and annual maintenance continue from the day she is yours. A yacht that is also chartered earns against them, and we will set out what her season has actually returned before you commit.
