Owning an eighty-eight-footer built with GRP and carbon fibre changes the calculus on weight and fuel before a mile is run. Betty is a Grande 27M from Azimut, delivered in 2023, and she was built to make life at the helm easier for her owner rather than harder. Ten guests and a crew of three travel aboard her, and much of what she carries points toward low-maintenance running.
Build and provenance
Azimut built the Grande 27M using GRP and carbon fibre construction, a combination that keeps weight down where it matters for handling and fuel burn at this length. Her hull sits at a modest 1.9-metre draft, opening up anchorages a deeper motor yacht would have to avoid. At 145 gross tonnes she carries real volume without the bulk of a heavier build.
Layout and accommodation
Ten guests sleep across five cabins, and a crew of three work from two separate crew cabins. The flybridge extends the living space upward, turning into a second saloon whenever the weather allows.
Performance and engineering
Twin 1,900 hp MAN V12 engines drive Betty to a 24-knot cruise, built for confident open-water running rather than a slow coastal shuffle. Fin stabilisers keep her level underway, and a beam of 6.59 metres gives her stability at speed. A fuel capacity of 9,500 litres and a 2,000-litre water tank mean fewer stops on a longer cruise, which is the practical side of owning a yacht this size.
On deck and at anchor
The flybridge holds the barbecue and opens with an electric awning, air conditioning runs the interior through a Turkish summer, and a watermaker means fresh water is made rather than rationed. SIMRAD electronics and a set of Panasonic cameras cover navigation and watch-keeping, and a stern thruster makes docking in Bodrum a one-person job.

Buying Costs
- Survey
- A buyer normally commissions a condition survey, and a sea trial, once an offer is accepted and before the sale becomes unconditional. The cost depends on her size and on where she is lifted, and it is the buyer who appoints the surveyor.
- Registration and flag
- She will be registered on a flag of the buyer's choosing, which carries its own fees and its own survey and crew requirements. Where the yacht is owned through a company, the shares rather than the vessel may change hands, which changes what is payable.
- VAT and import
- Whether VAT is due, and where, depends on the yacht's current status, her flag, the buyer's residency and where she is delivered. Where the seller has stated her VAT status, it is shown with the asking price on her page, and it is confirmed in writing before an offer is made.
- Running costs
- Crew, berthing, insurance, class and annual maintenance continue from the day she is yours. A yacht that is also chartered earns against them, and we will set out what her season has actually returned before you commit.
