About Virginia Sea
A fresh haul-out, a stabiliser service and new engine exhaust in 2024 tell a clear story about Virginia Sea: this is a 2016 Marlow that has been kept current rather than left to drift. Her Explorer-series hull was built for long-range comfort, and eight years on she still reads as ready rather than tired. For a buyer weighing a used explorer yacht, the gap between her build year and her last workshop visit is the number worth watching.
Build and provenance
Marlow built her as an Explorer-series motor yacht, a fibreglass monohull shaped for distance rather than speed, and in 2024 she went through a round of mechanical care: new exhaust on both engines, new electronics, and a haul-out with a stabiliser and bottom service. None of that changes what Virginia Sea is, an established long-range Marlow, but it does mean a coming survey is looking at recent work rather than eight-year-old systems.
Layout and accommodation
Ten guests sleep across four staterooms: a full-beam master with a king bed, a VIP cabin with a king and twin bunks, and two further twin cabins, all finished in teak and ebony satin woodwork. A separate cabin sleeps the four crew who run her, kept apart from the guest decks. Bow and stern thrusters make close-quarters work straightforward for whoever takes the helm.
Performance and engineering
Twin Caterpillar engines rated at 1,900 hp give her a 27-knot top speed and a 23-knot cruise, quick for a yacht built around range rather than sprint. Two 32kW Kohler generators keep the systems running at anchor without shore power, and a listed range beyond 1,500 nautical miles means real distance between fuel stops rather than a hop between marinas. A Yacht Controller system takes the guesswork out of docking her alone.
Where she lies and how to see her
Virginia Sea lies in Newport, USA, easily reached for a viewing. We arrange one whenever a buyer is ready and are there for it ourselves. Once an offer is accepted, a marine survey and a sea trial follow before anything closes.
