About Blackcat 50
A cruising sailing yacht built for genuine pace is the idea behind Blackcat 50: a fifty-metre platform designed to cover long, open-water miles under sail rather than plod between anchorages. Baltic Yachts has the project in build for a 2028 delivery, with ten guests across five cabins set in the specification. Her design and build team includes figures with America's Cup racing experience, brought in for a boat built around speed under sail as much as comfort at rest.
Build and provenance
Blackcat 50 is a monohull sailing yacht from Baltic Yachts, at fifty metres and 499 gross tonnes, with a beam of 18.5 metres and a draft of 4.5 metres. That beam and draft combination is built for stability and load-carrying under sail, and two CAT 8.7 engines, each rated at 650 horsepower and turning at 2300 rpm, sit aboard as auxiliary power for when the wind will not do the work. She is still in build, with a 2028 delivery date set in the specification.
Layout and accommodation
Ten guests are planned across five cabins, a spread that keeps each cabin generous rather than splitting the space into more, smaller ones on a fifty-metre platform. A crew number has not been published, since the build itself is not finished.
Performance and engineering
Under sail, Blackcat 50 is designed for a cruising speed of 16 knots and a top speed of 30 knots, figures that mark her as a yacht built for speed rather than for leisurely cruising alone. The two CAT 8.7 engines are there for windless passages and manoeuvring, leaving the sailing plan to do the real work of covering distance.

Blackcat 50 lies, still under construction, in Finland, and we take enquiries about her directly. A visit to see her progress can be arranged through us, and once a buyer's offer is accepted a surveyor's report and a sea trial follow, ahead of handover.

Buying Costs
- Survey
- A buyer normally commissions a condition survey, and a sea trial, once an offer is accepted and before the sale becomes unconditional. The cost depends on her size and on where she is lifted, and it is the buyer who appoints the surveyor.
- Registration and flag
- She will be registered on a flag of the buyer's choosing, which carries its own fees and its own survey and crew requirements. Where the yacht is owned through a company, the shares rather than the vessel may change hands, which changes what is payable.
- VAT and import
- Whether VAT is due, and where, depends on the yacht's current status, her flag, the buyer's residency and where she is delivered. Where the seller has stated her VAT status, it is shown with the asking price on her page, and it is confirmed in writing before an offer is made.
- Running costs
- Crew, berthing, insurance, class and annual maintenance continue from the day she is yours. A yacht that is also chartered earns against them, and we will set out what her season has actually returned before you commit.
