Bahrain Itineraries: Day Charters and Multi-Day Routes
Bahrain’s compact archipelago and the short distances between its islands make it one of the easiest Gulf destinations to charter. Every significant island, reef and cultural site is reachable within a few hours of Manama, and the variety – from the disappearing sandbar of Jarada Island to the wildlife sanctuary of the Hawar Islands – is remarkable for such a small country. The itineraries below are designed to be combined: the 3-day Bahrain coast route and the 4-day Hawar Islands voyage cover different ground, and together they create a 7-day charter capturing the Kingdom’s full range. Every itinerary is fully customisable.
Day Charter Routes
Jarada Island and the Tidal Sandbar
Depart Amwaj Marina mid-morning and set course east for Jarada Island – roughly 30 kilometres, about 45 minutes at cruising speed. Your captain times the arrival to the receding tide, so you watch the sandbar emerge from the sea as you approach. At low tide, nearly 2,000 feet of white sand stretches before you. Tender ashore and spend the morning swimming, paddleboarding and beachcombing on your own private island. Dolphins and sea turtles frequent the surrounding water. Your chef serves lunch on the aft deck – grilled seafood, tropical salad and chilled rosé – as the tide begins to return and the island slowly shrinks beneath your feet. Cruise back to Manama in the afternoon for sundowners at the marina.
Al Dar Islands and Reef Snorkelling
Cruise south from Amwaj Marina to the Al Dar Islands – Bahrain’s most popular day-trip destination for beach activities and water sports. Anchor in the calm, shallow water and spend the morning snorkelling the surrounding reef – parrotfish, butterflyfish, angelfish and the occasional hawksbill turtle in water uniquely adapted to the Gulf’s warm temperatures and high salinity. Your crew sets up shade and cold drinks on the beach. After lunch on the aft deck, try jet skis, paddleboards or a banana boat before returning to Manama by late afternoon.
Pearling Path and Bahrain Fort Cultural Day
Moor at Amwaj Marina and tender to Muharraq for a morning walking the UNESCO-inscribed Pearling Path – 17 historic buildings tracing 4,000 years of pearl-diving culture along a 3.5-kilometre route. Visit the pearl-merchant homes, the Qal’at Bu Mahir fortress and the diving-equipment displays. After lunch at a traditional Muharraq café, cruise or drive to Bahrain Fort – the ancient capital of the Dilmun civilisation and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005. The ramparts offer sweeping views across the Gulf. Return to the yacht for dinner aboard, or tender to the Four Seasons for CUT by Wolfgang Puck.
Multi-Day Itineraries
3-Day Bahrain Yacht Charter Itinerary: Manama’s Islands and Heritage
Day 1: Jarada Island and Amwaj
Board your yacht at Amwaj Marina by mid-morning. After a welcome briefing and champagne toast on the flybridge, set course for Jarada Island. Arrive as the tide recedes and the sandbar emerges. Spend the late morning swimming, snorkelling and paddleboarding on your own private island in the middle of the Gulf. Your chef serves a long lunch on the aft deck as the island slowly disappears beneath the rising tide. Cruise back to the Amwaj Islands for a late-afternoon stroll – waterfront restaurants, shops and a relaxed island atmosphere. Dinner aboard at the marina, or tender to one of the Amwaj beachfront restaurants.
Day 2: Al Dar Islands and the Pearling Path
Depart early for the Al Dar Islands. Spend the morning snorkelling the reef and enjoying water sports in the calm, shallow water. Your chef serves lunch on the aft deck as the yacht repositions towards Muharraq. In the afternoon, tender ashore and walk the Pearling Path – the UNESCO World Heritage route through Bahrain’s pearl-diving history. Visit the pearl-merchant houses, the fortress and the oyster-bed exhibits. Dinner ashore at La Table Krug in Al Seef – the first Krug concept in the Middle East – or at La Fontaine, set in a beautifully restored heritage building.
Day 3: Bahrain Fort and Farewell
Rise for a morning swim from the yacht, then tender ashore for a visit to Bahrain Fort – the Dilmun civilisation’s ancient capital with commanding views across the Gulf. Your guide explains the site’s archaeological layers, from the Bronze Age to the Islamic period. Return to the yacht for a farewell brunch on the aft deck. If time allows, cruise to the Tubli Bay mangroves for a final kayaking session through the tranquil, tree-lined waterways. Disembark at Amwaj Marina by mid-afternoon.
4-Day Bahrain Yacht Charter Itinerary: Bahrain to the Hawar Islands
Day 1: Manama to Al Dar Islands
Depart Amwaj Marina mid-morning and cruise south along Bahrain’s coast to the Al Dar Islands. Anchor in the calm water and spend the morning snorkelling the reef and swimming from the yacht’s platform. Your chef serves lunch on the aft deck. In the afternoon, continue south towards the Hawar Islands, covering approximately half the distance and anchoring in a sheltered spot for the evening. Dinner aboard beneath a sky full of stars, with the dark outline of the Hawar archipelago visible on the southern horizon.
Day 2: Hawar Islands – Wildlife and Wilderness
Arrive at the Hawar Islands by mid-morning. Anchor off the main island and spend the day exploring this Ramsar-designated wildlife sanctuary. Snorkel the surrounding reef, keeping an eye on the seagrass below for dugongs – the Gulf’s highest concentration inhabits these waters. The colonies of Socotra cormorants are staggering – 200,000 or more birds nesting in dense, noisy concentrations. Flamingos wade in the lagoons. Your crew prepares a beach picnic on one of the idyllic shores. In the late afternoon, cruise to a quieter anchorage in the archipelago for a sunset swim. Dinner aboard.
Day 3: Southern Hawar and Marine Exploration
Spend a second morning in the Hawar archipelago, exploring the outer islands and southern reef systems. The snorkelling here is outstanding – warm, clear water, healthy coral adapted to the Gulf’s unique conditions, and the chance of seeing dugongs, turtles and dolphins. Your chef serves lunch on the aft deck. In the afternoon, begin the return cruise north, stopping at a sandbar anchorage for a late swim and sundowner in the open Gulf. Overnight at anchor.
Day 4: Return to Manama via Jarada Island
Continue north in the morning, stopping at Jarada Island if the tides align – a final chance to stand on the Gulf’s most extraordinary sandbar. Arrive at Amwaj Marina by early afternoon. Time for a last stroll along the waterfront, a visit to the Bahrain National Museum, or a farewell dinner at CUT by Wolfgang Puck in the Four Seasons. Guests looking for a longer voyage can combine the 3-day Manama coast route with the 4-day Hawar Islands itinerary for a comprehensive 7-day charter covering the Kingdom’s full range – cultural heritage, island adventures and world-class wildlife – without repeating a single stop.
