About Long Island 78

Eighteen knots flat out and a 12-knot cruise mark the Long Island 78 out as a boat built for range rather than speed. JFA Yachts is building her in Concarneau, to a design by Marc Lombard, with 2027 set as her completion year.

Build and provenance

Her hull is aluminium and her deck and superstructure are composite, a combination chosen to keep weight down and range up rather than for outright pace. She is a long-range cruiser, still under construction at the yard in Concarneau, with 2027 set as the year she is due to be finished. Franck Darnet Design has drawn her interior and exterior styling, working a mix of oak and darker wood tones through the cabins.

Layout and accommodation

Eight guests are accommodated across four cabins: the port hull holds the owner's suite and a further guest cabin, and the starboard hull holds three more guest cabins. The wheelhouse sits up on the flybridge, enclosed, with a banquette and desk that give it panoramic views over the water alongside the helm. A galley, salon, dining area and chart table are set on the central level, so the everyday spaces sit together rather than split across decks.

Performance and engineering

Twin engines give the Long Island 78 her 12-knot cruise and 18-knot top speed, sized to match her light aluminium build rather than to chase outright power. That lighter construction is also what gives her the transatlantic range her design is built around, a boat meant to cross an ocean economically rather than sprint across a bay.

Where she lies and how to see her

The yard at Concarneau, France, is where the Long Island 78 is being built, and it is where a buyer would see her ahead of completion. We organise the viewing and stand alongside you there, and once an offer is accepted a survey and sea trial follow before she is handed over.
