Project Ice Motor Yacht
About Project Ice
54 metres of steel hull, rated for ice and polar routes, is what a buyer takes on with Project Ice, an explorer now under construction in Livorno. She is a custom build due in 2029, with her aluminium superstructure already fitted to the hull below.
Build and provenance
Her steel hull and aluminium superstructure are already joined, so what a buyer inspects is real plating rather than drawings on paper. At 800 gross tonnes over 54 metres, Project Ice holds a deep enclosed volume for her length, the kind of space a custom interior can be built around once she is delivered.
Layout and accommodation
Six cabins sleep twelve guests, with a master suite set off its own private stair beside the saloon. The crew numbers thirteen, close to a one-to-one ratio with guests, the kind of complement an expedition build carries for stretches away from a marina. On deck, the observation level holds a jacuzzi and gym, and a beach club with a swimming platform completes the exterior spaces.
Performance and engineering
Two fifteen-metre tenders stow on deck, with space held clear for a helideck or a large crane to handle them, a tender operation built for genuine range rather than day toys. Engine specification is still to be finalised at this stage of the build, in keeping with a project not yet complete.
Where she lies and how to see her
Project Ice is taking shape at her builder's yard in Livorno, Italy, and can be viewed there during construction. Boatcrowd sets up those visits and is present for them, and once a buyer's offer is accepted we arrange the survey and sea trial that follow.

Buying Costs
- Survey
- A buyer normally commissions a condition survey, and a sea trial, once an offer is accepted and before the sale becomes unconditional. The cost depends on her size and on where she is lifted, and it is the buyer who appoints the surveyor.
- Registration and flag
- She will be registered on a flag of the buyer's choosing, which carries its own fees and its own survey and crew requirements. Where the yacht is owned through a company, the shares rather than the vessel may change hands, which changes what is payable.
- VAT and import
- Whether VAT is due, and where, depends on the yacht's current status, her flag, the buyer's residency and where she is delivered. Where the seller has stated her VAT status, it is shown with the asking price on her page, and it is confirmed in writing before an offer is made.
- Running costs
- Crew, berthing, insurance, class and annual maintenance continue from the day she is yours. A yacht that is also chartered earns against them, and we will set out what her season has actually returned before you commit.
