Virgin Gorda Itineraries: Day Charters and Multi-Day Routes
Virgin Gorda’s compact size and two headline attractions – The Baths in the south, North Sound in the north – make it ideal for both day charters and multi-day explorations. The 3-day and 4-day itineraries cover different ground and can be combined into a 7-day voyage that explores every corner of Virgin Gorda and its surrounding islands. Day charter routes offer standalone outings from Spanish Town, the main arrival point. Every itinerary is customisable by your captain and Boatcrowd specialist.
Day Charter Routes from Spanish Town
Spanish Town to The Baths and Spring Bay: The Geological Tour
Depart Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour and cruise the short distance south to The Baths (1 nautical mile, 5 minutes). Pick up a mooring and wade ashore to the granite-boulder labyrinth. Follow the trail through natural pools, grottos and narrow passages to Devil’s Bay’s pristine beach on the far side. Return to the yacht for a chef’s lunch, then reposition a few hundred metres north to Spring Bay – similar boulder scenery with excellent snorkelling and far fewer visitors. A quiet afternoon swim among the granite formations. Return to Spanish Town in the late afternoon. Duration: 6–8 hours.
Spanish Town to North Sound: The Watersports Day
Cruise north around Virgin Gorda’s eastern coast to North Sound (8 nautical miles, 30 minutes). Anchor off Leverick Bay for a morning of kayaking and paddleboarding in the sound’s calm waters. Lunch at the Bitter End Yacht Club – the setting on a point overlooking the sound is superb. Afternoon tender to Saba Rock for a rum punch on the terrace, then a final swim in the sound’s warm, reef-protected shallows. Return to Spanish Town via the western coast for sunset views. Duration: 7–9 hours.
Spanish Town to Copper Mine and Fallen Jerusalem: The Explorer’s Route
Head south-east from Spanish Town to the Copper Mine ruins (2 nautical miles by road, or anchor offshore and hike up). Explore the 19th-century Cornish mine remains – stone chimney, mine-shaft house and dramatic clifftop views. Return to the yacht and cruise south to Fallen Jerusalem – a small, uninhabited island national park whose tumbled boulders resemble a ruined city. Snorkel the reef surrounding the island in clear, calm water. Chef’s lunch on the aft deck with views back to Virgin Gorda. Return to Spanish Town. Duration: 6–7 hours.
3-Day Virgin Gorda Yacht Charter Itinerary: Southern Virgin Gorda and the Sir Francis Drake Channel
Day 1: Spanish Town to The Baths, Spring Bay and Fallen Jerusalem
Board at Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour by mid-morning. Cruise south to The Baths for an early visit through the boulder trail to Devil’s Bay (arrive before the day-trip boats). Return to the yacht for a late-morning snorkel at Spring Bay’s quieter reef. After a chef’s lunch, cruise south to Fallen Jerusalem (3 nautical miles) for an afternoon snorkel around the tumbled-boulder island. Anchor off The Baths or Spring Bay overnight. Dinner on the aft deck as the sun sets behind the Sir Francis Drake Channel.
Day 2: Virgin Gorda to Cooper Island and Salt Island
Cruise west along the Sir Francis Drake Channel to Cooper Island (roughly 10 nautical miles, 35 minutes). Snorkel Cistern Point’s reef in the morning – colourful coral heads, sergeant majors, parrotfish and rays. Tender ashore to the Cooper Island Beach Club for a rum cocktail. After lunch on the aft deck, continue west to Salt Island (3 nautical miles) for a dive or snorkel on the RMS Rhone wreck. The bow section in 22 metres is dramatic; the stern in 10 metres is accessible to snorkellers. Anchor off Salt Island overnight.
Day 3: Salt Island to Peter Island and Return to Virgin Gorda
Morning cruise south to Peter Island (3 nautical miles). Anchor in Deadman’s Bay – a crescent of white sand backed by steep green hills. Swim, snorkel and enjoy a chef’s brunch on the aft deck. In the early afternoon, cruise east along the channel back to Virgin Gorda (12 nautical miles, 40 minutes), arriving at Spanish Town by mid-afternoon with time for a farewell sunset at CocoMaya – fire pits, Asian-Caribbean fusion and the channel glowing pink and gold.
4-Day Virgin Gorda Yacht Charter Itinerary: North Sound, Anegada and Beyond
Day 1: Spanish Town to The Baths and North Sound
An early morning at The Baths (arrive before 9am for the quietest experience). The boulder trail, Devil’s Bay, and a swim in the natural pools. Return to the yacht for brunch, then cruise north to North Sound (8 nautical miles, 30 minutes). Anchor off Leverick Bay for an afternoon of kayaking, paddleboarding and exploring. Tender to Saba Rock for a sunset rum punch. Dinner at the Bitter End Yacht Club or on the aft deck. Anchor overnight in North Sound.
Day 2: North Sound to Anegada
Cruise north from North Sound to Anegada (15 nautical miles, 45 minutes to an hour). Anchor off Setting Point and tender ashore. Morning at Loblolly Bay – pristine beach, reef snorkelling with nurse sharks, rays and turtles just offshore. Visit the salt ponds for wild flamingos. In the afternoon, explore Cow Wreck Beach on the north coast – a bar, a beach and nothing else. The evening highlight: lobster dinner at your chosen beachfront restaurant. Freshly caught Caribbean lobster grilled over coals, tables in the sand, the sun sinking into the reef. Anchor overnight off Anegada.
Day 3: Anegada to Necker Island and Eustatia Sound
Depart Anegada and cruise south towards Necker Island and the Eustatia Sound area (roughly 12 nautical miles). While Necker Island itself is private, the surrounding waters offer excellent snorkelling over pristine reef. Anchor in the sound and spend the morning snorkelling and swimming. After lunch, continue south to Prickly Pear Island – a small national park with a beach bar, snorkelling reef and a Robinson Crusoe atmosphere. Return to North Sound for an afternoon at Leverick Bay or the Bitter End. Anchor overnight.
Day 4: North Sound to Oil Nut Bay and Return to Spanish Town
Morning cruise to Oil Nut Bay on Virgin Gorda’s eastern tip (if arranged in advance, dock at the 101-slip marina for a morning at the private beach club). Alternatively, anchor offshore and snorkel the surrounding reef. After brunch, cruise south along Virgin Gorda’s east coast, passing the Copper Mine ruins on the headland. Stop at Valley Trunk Beach for a final swim – a quiet crescent of sand between The Baths and Spanish Town that is one of Virgin Gorda’s hidden gems. Arrive at Spanish Town by mid-afternoon for a farewell sunset at CocoMaya.
Guests looking for a longer voyage can combine the 3-day southern route (The Baths, Cooper Island, Salt Island, Peter Island) with the 4-day northern route (North Sound, Anegada, Prickly Pear, Oil Nut Bay) for a comprehensive 7-day Virgin Gorda charter that covers the island and its surrounding waters without repeating a single anchorage.
