Oman Itineraries: Day Charters and Multi-Day Routes
Oman’s 2,000-kilometre coastline and the proximity of world-class marine sites to Muscat make it ideal for both single-day outings and extended coastal voyages. The itineraries below are designed to be combined: a guest booking the 3-day Muscat coast route and the 4-day Musandam voyage can stitch them together into a 7-day charter covering two entirely different maritime landscapes without repeating a single anchorage. Every itinerary is fully customisable – your Boatcrowd charter specialist and onboard captain will tailor stops, pacing and activities to your group’s interests and the conditions on the day.
Day Charter Routes
Daymaniyat Islands Snorkelling and Diving
Depart Al Mouj Marina mid-morning and set course north-west for the Daymaniyat Islands – roughly 23 nautical miles, about 50 minutes at cruising speed. Spend the morning snorkelling the pristine reefs around two or three of the nine uninhabited islands – visibility of 18–27 metres, hawksbill turtles gliding over coral gardens, and during April–October the chance of encountering whale sharks feeding at the surface. Your chef serves lunch on the aft deck with nothing but ocean and rocky islands on the horizon. In the afternoon, explore a deeper dive site or drift-snorkel a second reef system before returning to Muscat in the golden late-afternoon light. Landing on the islands is prohibited May–October to protect nesting turtles, but the underwater world is spectacular from the yacht.
Bandar Khayran and the Coastal Bays
Cruise south-east from Al Mouj Marina to Bandar Khayran – roughly 15 nautical miles, about 40 minutes. This series of sheltered bays tucked into dramatic cliff faces offers calm, crystal-clear water and healthy reef just minutes from Muscat. Spend the morning kayaking through the lagoons, snorkelling over coral and swimming from the yacht’s swim platform in water that rarely sees another vessel. Your chef lays out a long lunch on the aft deck. In the afternoon, explore a second bay or try your hand at paddleboarding in the still water. Return to Muscat for sundowners at the marina or dinner at UBHAR near the Royal Opera House.
Al Fahal Island and Mutrah Harbour
Head east from Al Mouj Marina to Al Fahal Island – known locally as ‘Shark Island’ – for a morning dive or snorkel over the 39 coral varieties that make this one of the most biodiverse sites in Omani waters. Black-tipped reef sharks, moray eels and dense schools of tropical fish inhabit the surrounding reef. After a couple of hours underwater, cruise south to the old harbour of Mutrah. Anchor and tender ashore to walk the 200-year-old souq – frankincense, silver, spices and hand-woven textiles in winding alleys beneath wooden roofing. Lunch at Bait Al Luban overlooking the harbour, then return to Al Mouj Marina by late afternoon.
Multi-Day Itineraries
3-Day Oman Yacht Charter Itinerary: Muscat’s Coast and Reefs
Day 1: Daymaniyat Islands and Sunset at Al Mouj
Board your yacht at Al Mouj Marina by mid-morning. After a welcome briefing and champagne toast on the flybridge, set course for the Daymaniyat Islands. Spend the late morning and early afternoon snorkelling the pristine reefs – hawksbill turtles, colourful reef fish and, in season, the silhouettes of whale sharks filtering plankton at the surface. Your chef prepares a grilled seafood lunch on the aft deck. In the late afternoon, cruise back towards Muscat, anchoring off the coast for a sundowner as the Al Hajar Mountains glow pink in the fading light. Dinner aboard beneath the stars, or tender to the marina for an evening at UBHAR’s Omani fine-dining table.
Day 2: Bandar Khayran and Al Fahal Island
Depart early and cruise south-east to Bandar Khayran for a morning of kayaking, snorkelling and swimming in the sheltered bays. The cliff-backed anchorages feel utterly remote despite being less than an hour from Muscat. Your crew serves a leisurely lunch at anchor. In the early afternoon, reposition to Al Fahal Island for a dive or snorkel over its famous reef – black-tipped reef sharks cruising the coral walls, moray eels peering from crevices, and clouds of angelfish and butterflyfish in the shallows. Return to Al Mouj Marina by late afternoon. Tender ashore for dinner in old Muscat – walk the Mutrah Souq as the lanterns light up, then dine at Bait Al Luban overlooking the harbour.
Day 3: Muscat Cultural Morning and Farewell
Rise for a final swim from the yacht, then cruise to the old harbour for a morning exploring Muscat’s cultural treasures. Visit the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque (mornings only, modest dress required), drive or tender along the corniche to the Royal Opera House, and walk through the courtyards of the Al Alam Royal Palace district. Your chef prepares a farewell brunch on the aft deck back at Al Mouj Marina. Disembark by early afternoon with time for last-minute shopping at the marina’s waterfront boutiques.
4-Day Oman Yacht Charter Itinerary: Muscat to the Musandam Fjords
Day 1: Muscat to the Northern Coast
Depart Al Mouj Marina mid-morning and set course north along the Gulf of Oman coast. The first leg covers roughly 80 nautical miles, hugging the shoreline past fishing villages, hidden coves and stretches of coast where the Al Hajar Mountains plunge directly into the sea. Your crew serves lunch on the aft deck as the landscape unfolds. By late afternoon, anchor in a sheltered cove for a swim and snorkel in warm, clear water. Dinner aboard as the mountains darken against a sky scattered with stars.
Day 2: Continuing North to Khasab
Continue the coastal passage north towards the Musandam Peninsula – roughly 100–120 nautical miles from the previous night’s anchorage, depending on stops. The coastline grows increasingly dramatic as you approach the Strait of Hormuz, with villages accessible only by boat and traditional Omani dhows plying the waters. Your captain identifies the best snorkelling stops along the way. Arrive at Khasab harbour by late afternoon for fuel, provisioning and a brief walk through the town. The 17th-century Khasab Castle overlooks the harbour. Dinner aboard at anchor with the fjord walls rising on either side.
Day 3: Khor Ash Sham and the Fjords
Spend the full day exploring the Musandam fjords. Enter Khor Ash Sham early in the morning, when the light is most dramatic and dolphins are most active – pods regularly ride the bow wave as you navigate the narrow entrance. Anchor in the heart of the fjord, where limestone cliffs tower over 1,000 metres above and the water is 30 metres deep beneath the hull. Snorkel the pristine reef along the cliff base, kayak into side channels, and swim in water so still it mirrors the mountains. Your chef serves lunch on the aft deck in one of the most spectacular natural dining rooms on earth. In the afternoon, cruise to Khor Najd for a more remote, challenging anchorage with outstanding snorkelling. Overnight in the fjord.
Day 4: Musandam Morning and Return
Rise for a dawn swim in the fjord – the silence, broken only by dolphins surfacing, is unforgettable. After breakfast, cruise south from Khasab, stopping at one or two final snorkelling spots along the Musandam coast. Your crew serves a farewell brunch on the aft deck as the yacht turns south towards Muscat, or, if the itinerary allows, continue west around the peninsula towards the UAE coast for disembarkation in Dubai or Ras Al Khaimah. The 4-day route can be combined with the 3-day Muscat coast itinerary for a comprehensive 7-day charter covering both Oman’s urban elegance and its most dramatic wilderness.
