Cebu Itineraries: Day Charters and Multi-Day Routes
Cebu’s cruising ground divides naturally into a southern loop (Moalboal, Pescador Island, Oslob) and a northern loop (Malapascua, Bantayan, Camotes). The itineraries below are designed to cover each loop independently and to be combined for a full week-long Cebu charter. Every itinerary is fully customisable – your Boatcrowd charter specialist and onboard captain will tailor stops, pacing and activities to your group’s interests.
Day Charter Routes from Cebu
Mactan Marine Sanctuary Cruise
Depart the Cebu Yacht Club in the morning and cruise to Hilutungan Marine Sanctuary, roughly 20 minutes from Mactan. Snorkel over the protected reef – expect dense schools of fusiliers, parrotfish, clownfish and the occasional hawksbill turtle. Continue to Nalusuan Island, a tiny sandbar with a stilted boardwalk and vibrant coral below. Lunch on the aft deck, then cruise beneath the Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway for a sunset return to Mactan. A relaxed, reef-rich day perfect for families and first-time snorkellers.
Moalboal Sardine Run Day Trip
Depart Mactan early and cruise south-west along Cebu’s coast to Moalboal (roughly 45 nautical miles, 2.5–3 hours at cruising speed). Dive or snorkel into the resident sardine ball at Panagsama Beach – millions of sardines swirling in a shimmering silver tornado just metres from shore. After the sardine experience, snorkel with green sea turtles on the reef below and, if time allows, make the 15-minute crossing to Pescador Island for a dive on its coral-covered walls. Return to Mactan in the late afternoon with a sunset passage along the coast.
3-Day Cebu Yacht Charter Itinerary: The Southern Loop – Sardines, Turtles and Whale Sharks
Day 1: Mactan to Moalboal and Pescador Island
Board your yacht at the Cebu Yacht Club on Mactan by mid-morning. Cruise south-west along the coast to Moalboal (45 nautical miles, roughly 2.5 hours). Drop anchor off Panagsama Beach and dive or snorkel into the sardine run – the sheer density of fish is almost overwhelming, a swirling silver wall that parts and reforms around you. After the sardines, snorkel the house reef for green sea turtles grazing on the coral. Your chef lays out lunch on the aft deck: kinilaw with calamansi and coconut vinegar, grilled prawns and mango salad. In the afternoon, cruise 15 minutes to Pescador Island for a dive on the island’s legendary walls – steep coral drop-offs draped with sea fans, barrel sponges and gorgonians, with jacks, trevally and occasional whitetip reef sharks patrolling the blue. Anchor for the night in the sheltered waters off Moalboal.
Day 2: Tañon Strait and Oslob Whale Sharks
Depart early and cruise south through the Tañon Strait, keeping watch for dolphins (spinner dolphins are frequently spotted in these waters, often in pods of 50 or more). The passage to Oslob is roughly 30 nautical miles from Moalboal, around two hours at cruising speed. Your yacht anchors offshore at Oslob, and a local guide takes you by paddle boat to the whale shark interaction area. Slip into the warm, shallow water and find yourself face-to-face with the largest fish in the ocean – whale sharks (butanding) reaching 6–12 metres in length, gliding slowly past with their vast mouths agape, filtering plankton. The experience is calm, unhurried and utterly humbling. After the whale sharks, continue south to Sumilon Island, a small marine sanctuary just off Oslob’s coast with a shifting white sandbar and crystal-clear snorkelling. Your chef prepares dinner on the aft deck as the sun sets over the strait: Cebu-style lechon belly, garlic rice and fresh tropical fruit.
Day 3: Sumilon Island Snorkelling and Return to Mactan
A final morning snorkel at Sumilon Island’s marine sanctuary – the coral here is among the healthiest in the Visayas, and the resident population of reef fish is dense and unafraid. Walk the shifting sandbar (its position changes with the seasons) and take a last swim in the turquoise shallows. Your chef prepares a farewell brunch on the aft deck as the yacht begins the return passage north to Mactan (75 nautical miles, roughly four hours at cruising speed). Arrive by late afternoon. Guests looking for a longer voyage can combine this 3-day southern loop with the 4-day northern loop for a comprehensive 7-day Cebu charter covering both whale sharks and thresher sharks without repeating a stop.
4-Day Cebu Yacht Charter Itinerary: The Northern Loop – Thresher Sharks, Bantayan and Camotes
Day 1: Mactan to Camotes Islands
Board at the Cebu Yacht Club and cruise east across the Camotes Sea to the Camotes Islands (roughly 35 nautical miles, two hours at cruising speed). These four quiet islands – Pacijan, Poro, Ponson and Tulang – are seldom visited by charter yachts, and the off-the-grid atmosphere is a refreshing contrast to busier Philippine destinations. Anchor off Santiago Bay on Pacijan, a long white-sand beach with turquoise shallows and a fringing reef. Spend the afternoon snorkelling the reef, exploring the island’s freshwater Lake Danao by tender, or simply unwinding on the aft deck. Dinner under the stars – your chef sources fresh fish from Camotes fishermen and prepares sinigang na isda with local vegetables and garlic rice.
Day 2: Camotes to Malapascua
Depart early and cruise north to Malapascua Island, a passage of roughly 40 nautical miles through the Visayan Sea. Arrive by early afternoon and anchor off Bounty Beach, Malapascua’s main strip of white sand. Spend the afternoon relaxing on the beach, snorkelling the shallows around the island’s northern reefs (look for mandarin fish at dusk on the shallow reef near the lighthouse), and briefing with your dive master for the next morning’s thresher-shark dive. Dinner on the aft deck: grilled tuna steaks, calamansi butter, mango salsa and halo-halo for dessert.
Day 3: Thresher Sharks and Bantayan Island
Wake before dawn for the headline experience: a 5:00 a.m. dive at Monad Shoal, where pelagic thresher sharks – elegant creatures with scythe-like tail fins that can be longer than their bodies – visit cleaning stations at 18–25 metres depth. Settle on the sandy bottom and watch as the sharks glide in, allowing cleaner wrasses to remove parasites. The low light and the slow, graceful movements of the sharks create an almost meditative atmosphere. Surface to a hot breakfast on the aft deck, then cruise west to Bantayan Island (roughly 25 nautical miles, under two hours). Anchor off Sugar Beach or Paradise Beach – long crescents of fine white sand with gentle shallows and a laid-back, island-time feel. Spend the afternoon swimming, paddleboarding and exploring the waterfront village by tender. Your crew prepares a beach barbecue at sunset: whole grilled lapu-lapu, lechon kawali (crispy fried pork belly), ensalada and ice-cold San Miguel.
Day 4: Bantayan Beaches and Return to Mactan
A leisurely morning on Bantayan’s beaches. Snorkel the shallow reef off the northern tip of the island, explore the pastel-painted fishing village of Santa Fe by tender, and enjoy a final swim in the turquoise shallows. Your chef prepares a farewell lunch on the aft deck: longganisa sausage, garlic rice, fresh pan de sal and Filipino hot chocolate made from tablea cacao. Depart Bantayan and cruise south-east back to Mactan (roughly 60 nautical miles, 3–4 hours). Arrive by late afternoon. Guests can combine this 4-day northern loop with the 3-day southern loop (Moalboal, Pescador, Oslob) for a full 7-day Cebu charter that covers thresher sharks, whale sharks, the sardine run, and the Visayas’ finest beaches – without repeating a single stop.
5-Day Cebu Yacht Charter Itinerary: The Grand Cebu Circuit
Day 1: Mactan to Moalboal – Sardine Run and Pescador Island
Board at the Cebu Yacht Club and cruise to Moalboal. Dive or snorkel the sardine run, swim with green sea turtles, then cross to Pescador Island for an afternoon wall dive. Anchor off Moalboal for the night.
Day 2: Oslob Whale Sharks and Sumilon Island
Cruise south through the Tañon Strait to Oslob for a morning whale shark encounter. Continue to Sumilon Island for snorkelling on the marine sanctuary reef and a walk on the shifting sandbar. Overnight at anchor off Sumilon.
Day 3: East Coast Passage to Camotes Islands
Cruise north up Cebu’s eastern coast and cross to the Camotes Islands (roughly 60 nautical miles from Sumilon, a half-day passage). Anchor off Santiago Bay on Pacijan for an afternoon of snorkelling and beach time on a quiet, uncrowded island.
Day 4: Camotes to Malapascua – Thresher Sharks at Dawn
Cruise north to Malapascua (40 nautical miles). Anchor off Bounty Beach by early afternoon, snorkel the shallows and brief for tomorrow’s dawn dive. Sunset dinner on the aft deck.
Day 5: Thresher Sharks, Bantayan and Return to Mactan
Pre-dawn dive at Monad Shoal for thresher sharks, then cruise to Bantayan Island for a final beach morning. Farewell lunch on the aft deck, then return to Mactan (60 nautical miles, 3–4 hours). This 5-day grand circuit covers Cebu’s full range of marine encounters – sardines, whale sharks and thresher sharks – along with remote islands, world-class diving and some of the finest beaches in the Visayas. Guests looking for an 8-day voyage can add the 3-day southern loop at the start for an even more comprehensive exploration.
