Hong Kong Itineraries: Day Charters and Multi-Day Routes
Hong Kong’s cruising ground compresses extraordinary variety into short distances. Victoria Harbour’s skyscraper-lined waterfront gives way to pristine island beaches within an hour, and the UNESCO Global Geopark’s volcanic formations are reachable on a full-day charter from Central. These itineraries are designed to be combined: the 3-day Sai Kung Geopark route and 4-day Lantau and Southern Islands voyage cover entirely different ground, and stitching them together creates a 7-day experience spanning Hong Kong’s urban, natural, and cultural highlights.
Day Charter Routes
Victoria Harbour and Repulse Bay: Skyline to Beach
Depart from Central or Tsim Sha Tsui mid-morning and cruise through Victoria Harbour, passing the Star Ferry routes, the Convention Centre, and the glittering towers of both shorelines. Round the eastern entrance near Lei Yue Mun and head south along Hong Kong Island’s coast to Repulse Bay (approximately 40 minutes total). Anchor in calm water off the crescent beach, deploy the swim platform and water toys, and spend a leisurely morning swimming and paddleboarding with the South China Sea stretching to the horizon. Your chef serves lunch on the aft deck. Continue to Stanley for a waterfront walk and optional shopping, then return to Central via Victoria Harbour in the late afternoon, arriving as the skyline catches the golden light. Duration: 5–7 hours. This route captures Hong Kong’s extraordinary duality – urban energy and coastal beauty in a single day.
Sai Kung Island Hopper: Coral, Geology, and Hidden Beaches
Depart from Sai Kung Pier or Gold Coast Marina and cruise to Sharp Island (approximately 15 minutes from Sai Kung). Anchor over the island’s long coral reef in 3–4 metres of sheltered water and snorkel among the volcanic formations and colourful fish. At low tide, walk the tombolo sandbar connecting Sharp Island to the mainland – a geological curiosity that appears and disappears with the tides. After lunch on deck, cruise to Hap Mun Bay (Half Moon Bay) for a swim at one of Hong Kong’s most photogenic beaches, backed by lush green hillside. Return via a scenic route past geological formations, arriving at your departure point by late afternoon. Duration: 6–8 hours. This route is ideal for nature-focused guests and provides an accessible introduction to the Geopark’s underwater and geological wonders.
Lantau Cultural Discovery: Tai O and Dolphin Watch
Depart from Aberdeen or Central and cruise toward the western coast of Lantau Island (approximately 1.5–2 hours). Transit through the waters off north Lantau near Sha Chau, where your captain watches for Chinese white dolphins surfacing in the marine park zone. Continue to Tai O, anchoring offshore and tendering into this extraordinary fishing village of stilted houses, dried-seafood markets, and a pace of life that feels centuries removed from Central. Explore the narrow alleys, sample local snacks, and photograph the unique waterfront architecture. Return via Cheung Chau for an optional stop at this charming car-free island before heading back to your departure point. Duration: 7–9 hours.
3-Day Hong Kong Yacht Charter Itinerary: Sai Kung Geopark Immersion
Day 1: Central to Sai Kung via Clear Water Bay
Board your yacht in Central or Causeway Bay by mid-morning. Cruise east along the coast toward Clear Water Bay (approximately 2.5–3 hours), watching the urban skyline give way to green hillsides and rocky headlands. Anchor in the sheltered waters of Clear Water Bay for afternoon swimming and water sports. The beach here is wide, the water calm, and the setting remarkably peaceful given its proximity to the city. Your chef prepares dinner on the aft deck as the evening settles, and the bay grows quiet. Overnight at anchor.
Day 2: Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park and Sharp Island
Depart early and cruise to Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park (approximately 45 minutes from Clear Water Bay). Spend the morning snorkelling over one of Asia’s most diverse coral ecosystems – 60+ species of stony coral, 120+ species of reef fish, seahorses, and sea cucumbers in calm, protected water. Visit the WWF Marine Life Centre on shore for an eco-tour (advance booking recommended). After lunch on deck, transit to Sharp Island (30 minutes) for afternoon snorkelling over the tombolo sandbar and long coral reef in 3–4 metres of depth. The volcanic rock formations are visible from the water surface. Anchor for the evening near Sai Kung town, where your crew can arrange a waterfront dinner ashore or serve Cantonese cuisine on board.
Day 3: Tai Long Wan and Return
Depart morning for Tai Long Wan, Hong Kong’s most spectacular beach – a sweeping crescent of white sand backed by lush green hills on the eastern edge of Sai Kung Country Park (approximately 2 hours from Sai Kung). Anchor offshore and tender in for a morning of swimming and beach exploration. The setting is wild and beautiful, with surf rolling onto the sand and barely a building in sight. Return to the yacht for brunch, then begin the return cruise to Central (2.5–3 hours), arriving by late afternoon. Three days have taken you from the world’s most famous skyline to ancient coral reefs, volcanic geology, and a beach that belongs on a Pacific island postcard.
Combine this 3-day Sai Kung itinerary with the 4-day Lantau and Southern Islands route (below) to create a full 7-day voyage covering Hong Kong’s natural, cultural, and urban highlights without repeating a single anchorage.
4-Day Hong Kong Yacht Charter Itinerary: Lantau, Lamma, and Southern Islands
Day 1: Central to Lamma Island
Board your yacht in Central and cruise south toward Lamma Island (approximately 30 minutes). Anchor in a sheltered bay and tender ashore to explore one of Hong Kong’s most characterful islands – traditional fishing villages, excellent waterfront seafood restaurants, and a pace of life that contrasts dramatically with the city. Walk the scenic trail connecting Yung Shue Wan to Sok Kwu Wan (about an hour), passing through forest and along the coastline. Your crew arranges a lunch reservation at a waterfront seafood restaurant, where fresh fish and shellfish arrive direct from local boats. Afternoon snorkelling around Lamma’s coral communities. Dinner on deck as the sun sets behind Lantau, painting the sky amber. Overnight at anchor.
Day 2: Cheung Chau and Po Toi Islands
Depart morning for Cheung Chau (approximately 45 minutes from Lamma), a car-free island with a historic waterfront village, traditional temples, and excellent swimming bays. Explore the narrow streets, sample local street food, and photograph the colourful fishing fleet. After lunch, cruise south to the Po Toi Islands (approximately 30 minutes from Stanley), Hong Kong’s southernmost point. The granite coastline is dramatic and windswept, with ancient rock carvings and panoramic views. Anchor in a sheltered spot, swim in the deep blue water, and watch the light change on the rocks. This feels like the edge of the world – yet Central is barely an hour away. Overnight at anchor.
Day 3: Lantau’s West Coast – Tai O and Dolphin Watch
Cruise from Po Toi northwest toward Lantau (approximately 2 hours), transiting through waters off the island’s northern coast where Chinese white dolphins are occasionally sighted. Anchor off Tai O on Lantau’s western shore and tender into this extraordinary fishing village. Explore stilted houses built over tidal flats, browse the dried-seafood markets, and sample traditional shrimp paste and fish balls. The atmosphere is utterly unique – a living museum of Hong Kong’s maritime heritage. Return to the yacht for afternoon water sports in a sheltered bay, then anchor for the night off Lantau’s scenic coastline with dinner on deck.
Day 4: Repulse Bay and Victoria Harbour Finale
Final morning cruise from Lantau toward Hong Kong Island’s south coast, stopping at Repulse Bay for a swim and farewell brunch on deck (approximately 1.5 hours from Lantau). The crescent beach and calm water provide a gentle finale to four days of exploration. Mid-morning, round the island and enter Victoria Harbour from the east, cruising the full length of the harbour with both skylines rising on either side. If timing allows, your captain positions the yacht for one last photograph: your group on the sundeck with the Peak behind you. Disembark by early afternoon in Central.
Combine this 4-day Lantau and Southern Islands itinerary with the 3-day Sai Kung route (above) for a complete 7-day Hong Kong voyage, covering marine parks, geological wonders, fishing villages, island beaches, and the world’s most iconic harbour.
