Gold Coast Itineraries: Day Charters and Multi-Day Routes
The Gold Coast’s 860 kilometres of navigable waterways, sheltered Broadwater, wild barrier islands and open-ocean coastline create a charter playground unlike anywhere else in Australia. These itineraries are designed for luxury motor yachts, superyachts and catamarans departing from Sanctuary Cove or Marina Mirage.
Day Charter Routes from Gold Coast
Broadwater and Wavebreak Island: The Classic Gold Coast Day Out
Depart Marina Mirage or Sanctuary Cove and cruise south through the Broadwater toward the Gold Coast Seaway. Anchor at Wavebreak Island’s sheltered south-west lagoon – calm, sandy-bottomed water ideal for swimming, paddleboarding and snorkelling along the breakwalls. Your crew sets up a champagne picnic on the sand while guests explore the island’s beaches (accessible only by water). After lunch, cruise the Broadwater past Surfers Paradise’s iconic skyline – the high-rise towers reflected in flat, calm water – and return to the marina via the Nerang River, threading through the Gold Coast’s famous residential canal system. Dolphins frequently accompany vessels through the Broadwater, and in winter, humpback whales are visible from the Seaway entrance.
South Stradbroke Island: Wild Beaches and Wallabies
Cruise north from the marina through the Broadwater and across the Seaway to South Stradbroke Island – 21 kilometres of wild bushland, sandy beaches and wallabies, accessible only by boat. Anchor on the western (bay) side in calm, sheltered water and tender to the beach. Swim in crystal-clear water, walk the coastal dunes and spot wallabies grazing in the scrub. Your crew prepares a seafood lunch on the sand: Moreton Bay bugs, local prawns, tropical fruit. After lunch, cruise south to the Tipplers area for afternoon swimming before returning through the Broadwater at sunset with the Gold Coast skyline glowing behind you.
Gold Coast Sunset Cruise
A two-hour evening cruise on the Broadwater. Depart Marina Mirage at 5:00 pm and cruise south past the Gold Coast Seaway, with views of the open Pacific and the surf breaking at The Spit. Turn north through the Broadwater as the sun drops behind the hinterland mountains, turning the water gold. Champagne and canapés on the aft deck, dolphins hunting in the shallows, and the Surfers Paradise skyline illuminated against the darkening sky. Return to the marina by 7:00 pm for dinner at Tedder Avenue’s waterfront restaurants – Shuck, Birdcage Dining, or Milan on Main.
3-Day Gold Coast Yacht Charter Itinerary: Broadwater, Islands and Whale Watching
Day 1: Marina Mirage to Wavebreak Island and South Stradbroke
Board at Marina Mirage and cruise south through the Broadwater to Wavebreak Island for a morning of swimming and snorkelling in the sheltered lagoon. After a chef-prepared lunch at anchor, cruise north through the Gold Coast Seaway to South Stradbroke Island. Anchor on the calm western shore in the late afternoon. Tender to the beach for a walk along the wild sand dunes, spot wallabies in the scrub, and return to the yacht for a sunset dinner on the aft deck. The only lights visible are stars overhead and the distant glow of the Gold Coast skyline across the water. Overnight at anchor off South Stradbroke.
Day 2: Whale Watching and Burleigh Heads
Cruise through the Seaway into open ocean for a morning of humpback whale watching (June–November, peak July–August). Your captain positions the yacht along the migration route, 1–2 kilometres offshore. Watch 40-tonne humpbacks breach, tail-slap and blow against the backdrop of the Gold Coast skyline. After an exhilarating morning, cruise south along the coastline to Burleigh Heads. Anchor offshore and tender to Burleigh for lunch at Rick Shores – contemporary Pan-Asian cuisine with ocean views, one of the Gold Coast’s most celebrated restaurants. In the afternoon, explore Burleigh Heads National Park’s coastal walk or watch surfers ride the famous point break from the headland. Return to the Broadwater via the Seaway and anchor near Sanctuary Cove for the night.
Day 3: Broadwater, Canals and Farewell
A leisurely final morning cruising the Broadwater and the Gold Coast canal system. Thread through the Nerang River’s residential waterways – waterfront mansions, private jetties and tropical gardens line both banks. Spot bottlenose dolphins hunting in the shallows. Cruise past Surfers Paradise for views of the famous skyline from the water, then turn north to the marina. Disembark at Marina Mirage or Sanctuary Cove by early afternoon. For guests with time, walk Tedder Avenue in Main Beach for a farewell meal at one of the Gold Coast’s finest waterfront restaurants.
4-Day Gold Coast Yacht Charter Itinerary: Surf, Hinterland and Islands
Day 1: Marina to Wavebreak Island and the Seaway
Board at Sanctuary Cove and cruise south through the full length of the Broadwater. Stop at Wavebreak Island’s lagoon for morning swimming and paddleboarding in calm, sheltered water. Continue to the Gold Coast Seaway – the engineered deep-water entrance (250 metres wide, 11–20 metres deep) connecting the Broadwater to the Pacific. Cruise just outside the Seaway for views of The Spit, the surf at South Stradbroke Island and the distant Pacific horizon. Return to the Broadwater and anchor near Marine Stadium for the afternoon. Water sports on the flat, calm water: jet skiing, wakeboarding, parasailing. Dinner on the aft deck as the Surfers Paradise skyline lights up. Overnight at anchor on the Broadwater.
Day 2: Hinterland Helicopter and South Stradbroke
A morning unlike any other charter destination in Australia. Helicopter from Sanctuary Cove to O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat in Lamington National Park (fifteen minutes by air). Walk the 180-metre tree-top suspension bridge, 20 metres above the rainforest canopy, with views of the McPherson Range. Explore ancient Antarctic beech trees, waterfalls and subtropical rainforest. Helicopter back to the yacht by late morning. In the afternoon, cruise through the Seaway to South Stradbroke Island. Anchor on the western shore and tender to the beach for swimming, bushwalking and wildlife spotting. Overnight at anchor off South Stradbroke, far from any road or settlement.
Day 3: Offshore Adventure and Coastal Dining
Cruise south along the open-ocean coastline from South Stradbroke. In whale season (June–November), your captain follows the humpback migration route; outside whale season, the offshore run offers views of the Gold Coast’s iconic surf beaches from the water – Snapper Rocks, Kirra, Currumbin, Palm Beach, Burleigh Heads. Anchor offshore at Burleigh for lunch at The Fish House – award-winning seafood at the southern end of Burleigh Beach, with menus that change daily based on the finest fish available. Afternoon options: surf at Burleigh’s famous point break (boards arranged by your crew), walk the Burleigh Heads National Park trail, or simply relax on the sundeck. Return through the Seaway to the Broadwater. Dinner at Kiyomi at The Star – the Gold Coast’s foremost Japanese dining experience. Overnight at Marina Mirage.
Day 4: Canals, Dolphins and Farewell
A final morning exploring the Gold Coast’s legendary canal system. Cruise the Nerang River past waterfront mansions and tropical gardens. Spot bottlenose dolphins hunting fish in the shallows – four dolphin species frequent Gold Coast waters year-round. Continue through the Broadwater to Peter’s Fish Market at Seaworld Drive for the most authentic Gold Coast seafood experience: fresh local fish overlooking the waterways. Return to Sanctuary Cove or Marina Mirage by early afternoon, with time for a farewell stroll along Tedder Avenue or a final swim at Main Beach before transfers to Gold Coast Airport or Brisbane Airport.
