About Long Island 87
Fifteen years of collaboration between JFA Yachts and Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group sit behind the Long Island 87, a design built on the yard's three decades of experience in long-range cruising boats. JFA is building this hull now, for delivery in 2028, in Concarneau. That pedigree counts most before a hull is finished, when a buyer is weighing the yard's record rather than the boat herself.
Build and provenance
She is built in aluminium, with glass-epoxy infusion composite used through the structure, and classed to the load-line rules the yard designs her under. At sixty tonnes light, Marc Lombard drew a hull engineered to run efficiently rather than simply carry weight, the kind of lighter displacement the yard says brings higher average speeds and lower fuel use over a long passage. Below, the joinery mixes light and dark woods, a modern take on JFA's usual cabinetry.
Layout and accommodation
Long Island 87 sleeps eight guests across four cabins, with a crew of four looking after them in quarters of their own, apart from the guest deck. That ratio, one crew member for every two guests, suits an owner planning weeks at sea rather than a single afternoon out.
Performance and engineering
Two 380 hp Yanmar 6LY3 engines drive her, paired with two Onan 23 kW generators for hotel power at anchor or under way. Her tanks hold 2,641 gallons of fuel and 422 gallons of fresh water, capacity built for the extended cruising JFA designs her range for, rather than for a week between marinas. A sixteen-foot tender launched from a telescopic pole in the boom rounds out what she carries for going ashore.
Where she lies and how to see her
Long Island 87 is being built in Concarneau, France, and lies at the JFA yard until her 2028 delivery. We arrange a visit to see her construction in person, and once a build slot is secured with an accepted offer, survey and sea trial follow in the usual order before handover.

Buying Costs
- Survey
- A buyer normally commissions a condition survey, and a sea trial, once an offer is accepted and before the sale becomes unconditional. The cost depends on her size and on where she is lifted, and it is the buyer who appoints the surveyor.
- Registration and flag
- She will be registered on a flag of the buyer's choosing, which carries its own fees and its own survey and crew requirements. Where the yacht is owned through a company, the shares rather than the vessel may change hands, which changes what is payable.
- VAT and import
- Whether VAT is due, and where, depends on the yacht's current status, her flag, the buyer's residency and where she is delivered. Where the seller has stated her VAT status, it is shown with the asking price on her page, and it is confirmed in writing before an offer is made.
- Running costs
- Crew, berthing, insurance, class and annual maintenance continue from the day she is yours. A yacht that is also chartered earns against them, and we will set out what her season has actually returned before you commit.
